I have a question about websites. Should you build at least 10-20 content pages before applying to adsense? When building affiliate sites for revenue should you apply to search engines first before inserting affiliate links? These are the 2 questions i have. Thanks!
In answer to your 2nd question, you don't need to apply to search engines. If you want a spider to visit a new site, try getting links from your friends' sites, your other sites, forum signatures etc... Search engine submissions aren't really that useful.
I agree. In addition, there no need to wait for search engine recognition to insert adsense ads -- you just won't get much, if any traffic for a while -- which means no adsense revenue. Traffic is the key to revenue. On your question #1, again there's no need to wait to use adsense but without traffic and content, you will not see much adsense revenue. As your content grows, and your traffic grows, your revenue will grow (assuming ads are relevant to your content and interesting to your visitors).
fcmisc is right add your url to your sigs in forums like this one and also use forums related to your site giving advice on your topic. This should allow you to post your url on certain posts without it being considered spamming the forum. You can also build a sitemap and submit it to Google and everytime you add a new page to your site just logon to Google Sitemaps and resubmit.
I concur. I have a site that was indexed into Google wtihin 4 days just by using one way links from a few other sites. A general consensus is that it is better to let the SE's "find" your site than to "tell" them about it.
Funny I never resubmit my site maps google always download them ~every 24 hours and checks for changes.
I think the only thing you may find is that Google may not accept your application unless you have something worth advertising on? I would build a few pages at a minimum. Regardless I agree with all others in relation to 'submitting' your site. Jay
