Let's say your keyword is "blue widgets" and there is a movie called "The Blue Widgets," and you want your ad to trigger when someone types in "blue widgets" but not "THE blue widgets." Is the better option to: a) For the "blue widgets" adgroup put "the blue widgets" as a negative exact. b) For the "blue widgets" adgroup put "the" as a negative broad. Thanks for your help! Johnny
The solution would depend on the type of product. if it truly is a movie title you are bidding on, I would just bid the exact match. That way you don't have to worry about the negative keywords. If the keyword needs to have the broad and phrase then this might not work. In that case try putting the exact match of the keyword in one group. Then in another group put the phrase and broad match. In this group put your negative keywords and see how google handles it. If Google is blocking the traaffic because of the negative keyword, at least you will get the traffic from the exact match which is the most profitable anyway. Thanks Greg
I would try both ideas putting the and the blue widgets as negatives. I would also write my ad so that it is clear that your product/sevice has nothing to do with the movie.
You probably don't want "The" as a negative keyword - it'll take out "The cheapest blue widgets" as well. Try -[the blue widgets] You can still use match types with your negative keywords, so this will only stop the advert when somebody searches for that exact term. Alternatively, -"the blue widgets" would stop the advert when somebody searches for anything containing this phrase, like "cast from the blue widgets"
