Quick question about Links.com

    Hi everyone,

Right now I am looking at new ways to develop www.links.com. If you have some ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

Right now, just a really quick question. Do you think that adsense ads detract from the site right now? In particular, do you think the Google search should be replaced with the original search function that comes with Wordpress? Thanks for your help and ... Happy New Years!

Great site. Mayby try a little bit larger font at descriptions... in the menu try to place the number of links in hte category.

PS: Would you sell the domain?

    Hi,

This is certainly a possibility, but I would like to try to find something that is more out-of-the-box right now. While I am looking for some excellent/creative talent here in Chicago right now to move the site along, this is what I have come up with so far. I would like the site to meet with approval by visitors, which is why I am concerned that the ads may or may not detract. Paricularly that Google search box. I get some revenue from it, but if it detracts, I will take it off.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks. Yes, I am thinking about a makeover for some of the presentation aspects of the site, if I decide to build on the idea.

At this time, I am not selling the domain, but I will definitely post if I decide to do this some time in the future. Thanks for your interest.

    Hi,

Thanks for the interest in links.com, but at this time I am not considering selling the name. But I will post here on digitalpoint should I ever decide to put the name up for sale.

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!

Links.com is currently a blog about general topics. I think you can make good use of it by making it a site related to selling links rather than a blog.

It is very hard or almost impossible to get a nice domain like this these days! My suggestion is to sell it for a decent price!

    Hi,

Yes, this is true. My intent is to create a directory in blog form, of very high quality sites, in each of twenty-four (or so) categories. Anyone interested in particular information, can be assured that the listings are of the very best quality. They are free and moderated - and do change over time as better listings rotate in. I would say no more than 10 listings max in each category. This would be at the other end of the spectrum from DMOZ and Yahoo, which try to be comprehensive. I am trying to be concise and HQ.

This may not be coming across well at all and would mean that minimally the site needs a major redesign. The reason I am not re-designing at this point, is because I am in the middle of proof-of-concept. I am not satisfied with niche (e.g. HQ sites). I would rather be first-mover with some idea which I am still contemplating. I do have some ideas, but I am not satisfied. So I will try out ideas, until something may hit.

Yes, selling space (sort of like a mall) is always a possibility, but I do want to try to do something new with this domain. We shall see to what extent I am successful. It will certainly be out there for everyone to see. :)

Have a very Happy New Year and thanks much for your comments.

    Hi,

This is always a possibility, but I would like to build something unique on this name. Let's face it, I will not get many opportunities to do such a thing in my life. How, it all evolves, remains to be seen, but I very much appreciate the comments, support, and thoughtfulness that I receive in members comments. Hopefully, I can do something decent with this domain.

    Regards,
    Rich

    Hi,

Thanks for your comments. I am mixed about the site. I do think that there is merit to having a site that is truly a Best of Best (as opposed to advertised placement), since it does help visitors find high quality sites very quickly. It also helps webmasters, who have high quality sites, get visibility, even if they are unable to get high placement in search engines.

However, I am not sure that there is a "need" out there for such a site. While traffic has certainly increased substantially over the last month or so, (I am happy to see this verified by Alexa), I do not see the repeat visitors nor the stickiness (i.e. pages/visit) that I would like to see. It could be that this will develop over a long time frame - or it could be that the need for this type of site is marginal.

In any case, I am brainstorming other ideas, and am seeking assistance here in Chicago. If you have have any high quality sites that you would like to share with me, I would very much appreciate it. You can PM me or simply go the www.links.com, and recommend the site using the Recommend a Site tab.

Really appreciate your comments and support.

    Have a Happy New Year!

Sorry about that listing. I removed it. Links.com is not for sale.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

:) Yep, I have to get my act together. It is very embarrassing to have neglected this domain for so long. But now I have the time and I will begin to immerse myself at the job ahead. Thanks for the ideas and encouragement.

That is not good. :) When did you try to access it? Were you behind any proxy server?

Thanks for letting me know, I will try to investigate.

For better blending the text and ads fonts should be matching. Try to use something graphic for the menu. Try to separate the blog from page by adding some background to the page, and leave the white background for the blog body.
