Does submitting your individual posts also help with your SEO and google rankings? Like instead of me just submitting the home page of the site to the google's list to crawl?

There's no reason to ever submit anything to a search engine. It's an out-of-date anachronism that they even offer the sevice, and as far as I remember on the page that they do, they basically tell you not to bother.
Search engiens find sites through links.
It will find your internal pages through your on-site navigation, backlinks and a sitemap.

I agree. Also, if you want your individual posts to get indexed quicker, try pinging them.

There's no need to submit individual posts if you use a sitemap.

I've never been too keen on pinging search engines as not to look spammy. If you're worth finding - They'll find you

You can ping search engines? I didn't know that. I was talking about pinging sites like Technorati, etc.
