    Well, As you wish,

Explain to me the verses below:

    God, that is cruel...

So, is that mean OT is acceptable and should be practiced???

    Geez...That is scary!!!

    Not that loving to Jews!

Huh??? Is this for real???? Where is the kindness???

    Pity those pigs...

Just because they don't listen to stranger??

So, is this a family constitution or something??

So you must "fear" instead of "love"?

OMG! A sword instead of peace?? You shouldn't be following Jesus then. Follow Gandhi instead..Only "peace" in his mind...

God... So much chaos.....Even in family, they will be made to hate each other...This is so cruel!

Don't curse you parents, or death will be awaiting you. Not that loving....

    Would you ever do that?

What is this? This can't be right...

Above is from Mathew only, You can answer those above first...

zarul... you know bits and pieces of the Word of God but have no understanding whatsoever. Your study is but at a glance. But, that being said, I thank you for the opportunity to discuss the Living Word of the Living God.

You quote: "Mat 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against [their] parents, and cause them to be put to death." Asking for this to be explained.

zarul, this speech of Jesus occured when He bestowed the gifts (such as of healing) upon the apostles. He was sending them forth into the world to spread His Mighty and Holy Word. IN the verse you speak of He is warning them of the inevitable future, however, of the hatred they would encounter at the mere mention of His Holy name. Christians would be hated everywhere, yet the Word would touch the hearts of the few, (for narrow is the gate), and when It did, It would create such havoc among families and friends and neighbors that some would even turn their own brothers, and mothers and fathers, and sons and daughters, into the authorities for punishment and even death... Your observation "God, is that cruel" IS right on the money. But the cruelty is not the Lords but rather emanates from the evil spirit, hearts and minds of Man.

Next you quote: "Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil," asking: "So, is that mean OT is acceptable and should be practiced???"

No, zarul actually it means the exact opposite. By Jesus fulfilling the Law the law is now no longer the guide for the life of the Christian. Instead, the Christian is now guided by a more perfect law, the Law of Christ, which is the fulfillment of the promise God made to us in the OT. Reference to this glorious fact is made numerously throughout the new testament, and even through the promises of the old:

2Cr 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Hbr 8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Hbr 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

    Hbr 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

And so we see the change from the OT, a guide to Life to the Law of Christ and to Life itself. The cornerstone of this new Law? Honor God and Love thy neighbor.

Next you quote: "5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."

You note: "Geez...That is scary!!!" And this is precisely what Jesus hoped you would feel. For Hell is a scary place indeed, a place you should avoid at all costs.

Next you quote: "8:10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Your comment here? "Not that loving to Jews!" Not so, please remember that his twelve, with but one exception, were jews. Paul was a jew, James, Peter... all jews. The first converts to Christianity were all jews. But Jesus also knew that the greater majority of the jews of the time would be the first to persecute His church, His followers. Also, they, though being given the oracles of God therefore to await His very coming, would turn their backs upon God by being deaf and blind to His walking among them. IN so doing they would "blaspheme the Holy Ghost" the only unforgiveable sin. Why inforgiveable? Because those who do this do not ASK for nor SEEK forgiveness, and therefore run the risk of not receiving it.

Next you quote in utter misunderstanding: "Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." You ask: "So you must "fear" instead of "love"?"

IN this case, YES, ABSOLUTELY, for, no, you should NOT love satan, and it is satan Jesus is referring to.

Again, you demostrate a complete lack of understanding of HIs Holy Word when you quote: "Mat 10:34 ¶ Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword, " and then suggest to us all "OMG! A sword instead of peace?? You shouldn't be following Jesus then. Follow Gandhi instead..Only "peace" in his mind..."

Jesus was again addressing the issue you set first at hand, that of the family, of the friend, turning upon one another because of Him. Those who love righteousness, and recognise Jesus for who He is would be persecuted by those around him. Much as would any Christian who suddenly announced himself so in an Arab world, city, or home. The "sword" is the analogy Jesus uses so wondrously as this represents the "cutting" of ties.

Next you completely miss the irony of Jesus's Words for you do not read on: you quote: "Mat 15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death,"
then you state: "Don't curse you parents, or death will be awaiting you. Not that loving...."

Again you do not understand anything of Christianity. Jesus is here calling the pharisees "hypocrits" and using the example of their willingness to kill, or at least to say they would kill someone who did not honor their parents, just as they are in this chapter trying to show that jesus Himself is ignoring the Law of Moses, when in fact this is NOT the Law at all but tradition: Jesus continues to say: "Mat 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men."

Inother words, they, the phariess, are misquoting His Word just as you are.

IN your final quote, we must raise an eyebrow. Either you did not read the chapter you quote from, or you purposesly hide the obvius truth of the statement. For this is the chapter in which Jesus tells the "Parable of the UNprofitable Servant." This is obviously a parable, a teaching of an analogy, a telling of a story, for the purpose of teaching a truth. Why did you not realize or declare as much? Were you ignorant of this fact or did you partially quote the verse abovce on purpose?

If there are any other verses in your long querry which I have not answered I apologise, but yours was a long tall order, and I am very tired. If there's something I missed and you still want it answered please let me know.

Either way, zarul, I highly recommend you actually read the Word of God, the Holy Bible, and you will find all the answers to your questions on your own. And what a beautiful wondrous journey it shall prove for you.

    IN Christ, Lord and Saviour

First of all, I "DO" understand what you're trying to explain, and I think you're the one who don't understand the purpose of this post, So I suggest you to read:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1356902&postcount=349

    and

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=131740

before you reply this post, make sure you understand the purposes of my posts.

Anyway, I will proceed by asking you a few questions.

    1) Regarding new testament / old testament: Do you think god changed his mind? Like the stoning to death. If so, god isn't that great. He might change his law from violence to non-violence, but still, a criminal is still a criminal new or old.

Or perhaps, the meaning of "stoning to death" is not to be taken literally? It is something to be taken "metaphorically"?? Something like an analogy?

    2) Your explanation above proved that, you're not taking those verses "literally", instead you took it metaphorically. As example, the "sword" analogy and this what I was expecting for my post.

So now after reading this, answer the question I asked Arnie. If the "sword" in the verse is to be taken as an anology, what made you think the word "kill" in Quran must be taken "literally" or only define the meaning of physically murdering someone. Please answer my question. Thanks~!

    In the New Testament:
there is no call for a Jihad or killing others and God has fortold what you guys are practising today.

God doesn't change his mind. This why we have a long testemonial in the old testament for the coming of Jesus for the New Testament. The fullfillment of the old one.

Who cares what a stupid book says. Books are written by humans and thereby they can not be perfect and you should not take everything literally. Start thinking yourself behave reasonable

zarul, I have no time today to read the posts you suggest but shall soon. IN the meantime I will answer your questions.

    1. You ask: "1) Regarding new testament / old testament: Do you think god changed his mind? Like the stoning to death. If so, god isn't that great. He might change his law from violence to non-violence, but still, a criminal is still a criminal new or old."

Answer: IN the overall picture of things, no - God never changes His mind. He DOES however change His method. For instance see how different the flood is to the sacrifice of His Holy Son upon the cross. See how different are the days of Eden to the days of David. There were the Laws of Moses and are now the Laws of Christ. Yes, the methods have changed.

But on a more particular note. God does allow for human responsibility to determine ones fate, and in this manner, yes, God has changed his mind. Remember what He told Lot... IF x amount of good people could be found THEN and only then would He spare Soddom and Gammorah. Also, when Hezekiah was ill, God sent His prophet to see him and tell him he was going to die. But then Hezekiah put his face to the wall and prayed and God sent the prophet back to tell him he had more years. God "changed His mind" here in effort to show us all the Power of Prayer.

Also, when you surmise: "Or perhaps, the meaning of "stoning to death" is not to be taken literally? It is something to be taken "metaphorically"?? Something like an analogy?" One must remember that this was a common answer to what was perceived as criminality and this current still flows through in the muslim world. Remember Jesus and the attempted stoning of the adultress? Stoning WAS a thing of Judaism and IS a thing of Islam. If you condemn such practices again I praise you for your singularity of thought.

    2. You write: "2) Your explanation above proved that, you're not taking those verses "literally", instead you took it metaphorically. As example, the "sword" analogy and this what I was expecting for my post.

There is a difference between parable and practice. And as I demonstrated above in that stoning was a "practice" very much in use in the days of the OT, and that Jesus, by example was against it, I also demonstrated that the practice today in many muslim countries is still very much alive (to use an unfortunate pun considering the fate of its victims).

You do not agree with many of your muslim brothers and sisters if you believe "stoning" should be taken metaphoricaly. And again, if this is the case I appluad your courage and singularity of thought. What are you doing to help your brethren see the errors of their ways?

    IN Christ

Thank you for bringing this up Zarul.

    Quote:
5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Jesus spoke with symbols all the time. It was well known from all apostles.

This Quote sounds really cruel IF taken literally. It has never been practiced from Christians. That is a BIG difference between Christianity and Islam. Islam teaches literally to cut hands. You don't see symbolic speech in its orders.

God does not want crippled people. Cutting bodily parts wont make you righteous. But cutting out of yourself the desires to have what you see (with your eye), cutting off the desire one may have just to take material things will bring him good. The body Jesus talks about is the "spiritual" body NOT THE PHYSICAL.

Who are you? Are you your finger? Are you your hand? Are you your leg? They belong to you just to serve you. You are more than a finger and a leg. The soul, the spirit one has are more important to God. The physical body is one man's house. Today you have it tomorrow you don't. But the soul is eternal.

One must have SPIRITUAL WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE to understand Jesus parables.

It'll be really stupid if you try to make somebody righteous by cutting body parts for sinning. For example lying is a sin.
It's like a habit for many to lie.

    Question.
How come Muhammad didn't order cutting tongs for lying, but cutting hands for stealing? People steal material things, worldly things. It is hard for the rich to get in Paradise because of the attachment they have to the material. If the material is a secondary thing then why cutting hands?

    Back to your Quote:
How many people got their eyes plucked out or their hands cut off during Jesus' physical time on Earth?
Every Christian knows the answer. NONE

Do you see the Big difference between Christianity and Islam?

How could a sinner stone a sinner? Who is the sinner to judge?

I am sure you Zarul have stolen something in your life. (Everyone has taken something without permission, could be a pen or anything else.) How come you don't go and get your hand cut off for those deeds? My advice is don't do it. God wants you in good health. Just don't steal. That's it. It is not moral to steal.

Cruelty is the opposite of Christianity. Love excludes any cruelty.

Love your neighbor like yourself. Love your enemies. Love each other.
Love is the Christian point of view.

zarul shahrin doesn't know how to read properly, or he'd be able to tell which parts are analogies and which parts arn't. You use logic and you analyze what you read, thats how you tell. The bible isn't complex, if you know how to read.
You must misunderstand a lot of books you read. The bible in most cases should be heavily analyzed to check for symbolic meaning, however, the Quran is meant to be take literally, because it doesn't have any symbolism.

You have a degree in theology????

Were you alive when either book was written by another man???

    Did you write either book??

    If not,

Then you have no idea of the authors intent, and as such, are unqualified to opine on what each book was meant to do.

Try to post facts, not thoughts or beliefs.

    Thanks

Wisdom, wisdom is needed to understand the parables Jesus gave.
One must be able to read 'between' the lines and be able to understand the symbolic way Juses used. Why He used it?
May be He wanted to keep the sacret things sacret.

    Matthew 7:6
"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

Let me show you "THE DIVINE MIGHT OF JESUS" just a portion of it.

    Matthew 8
    The Man With Leprosy
1When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2A man with leprosy[a] came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."
3Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. 4Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

    The Faith of the Centurion
5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6"Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering."
7Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him."

8The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

10When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

13Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour.

    Jesus Heals Many
14When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
16When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
    "He took up our infirmities
    and carried our diseases."[c]

    The Cost of Following Jesus
18When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
20Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

21Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."

22But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

    Jesus Calms the Storm
23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

Did Muhammad do anything close to this?

    A Tree and Its Fruit
15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

    The Wise and Foolish Builders
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

    In regards to:

22But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."

I agree with one thing. You're blind (now) to see its meaning. One day you will understand it.
I know it, but I'll keep it for myself.

Sem, you write: "Did you write either book?? If not,Then you have no idea of the authors intent, and as such, are unqualified to opine on what each book was meant to"

But that is ridiculous. Don't yourealize that would mean you to could not understand your own book?

We are told to study the Bible, day and night, as a matter of fact, and to educate ourselves by the blessing of the Holy Spirit through His Holy Word. The truths of His Word are there and BECAUSE you study them you may discern them.

Stoning to death isn't part of Islam, please get yourself clear of that. Stoning to death is in hadith, that is been followed by certain sects. So it is more as something practiced by a group of people instead of Islam in general. Please read the history of hadith. Thank you!

Again, stoning to death is never part of Quran, it is part of hadith which even the author is not clear of the validity. So, it is not a question whether it should be taken metaphorically or not. Hadith is not part of Islam, It is a part of a group. I don't need it because I am not part of the groups. Simple! :)

Why not read this article: http://www.free-minds.org/articles/hadith/hadithmyth.htm

    to gain some knowledge?

I think I've done more talking with traditional muslims than what I am doing here telling people to stop spreading hatred. Or else I wouldn't be given a lot of labels like secular/liberal/plural/etc muslim.

Anyway, if you're a true Christian who are honest in your belief, why not join this intelectual discussion here: http://www.free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=5342.0
