Questions from a beginner

I've recently started a new website. It is a wordpress blog on horse racing. I already have a website up and running, but its been over two years since I started something new. What are some of the first things I should do in regards to SEO? Is it more important to create a lot of content right now, or focus on link building? Are directories still worth it? Do search engines automatically index, or do I need to submit my site to all of them?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions lol.

- try to get some links from your friends sites/ blogs
- do some article submission
- but FIRST make a list of keywords for which u want to rank n give proper URLs to the blog posts

First sure your site is search engine friendly. Create some quality back links for your site and start link building for your site.

 

Create some quality backlinks by forum posting , article writing , blogging , blog commenting etc . Joining some good social networking and bookmarking sites like facebook , twitter , eZdia , linkedin , digg , mixx etc to increase the traffic to your site

 

I suggest you read through SEO guidelines ebook provided by Google.

This is the basic guidelines that everyone follows.

Next, you must start with quality link building from related sites.

 

First thing I would do is on-page and on-site optimization. This includes taking care of URL canonicalization issues, optimizing title elements, optimizing meta description elements, optimizing header elements, optimizing the link text used to interlink your pages, etc. on EVERY page on your site.

Once you have your own site optimized THEN move on to off-site optimization (i.e. building links from external sites).

 

Since new site does not get frequently indexing by search engines, it's good to get more backlinks to each webpage or each content, otherwise out of 10 articles, probably only one get indexed. You would have wasted your time writing the other nine.

 

I don't think WordPress blogs have any problem getting crawled and/or indexed.
