I was wondering if anyone is a stumbleupon expert and can answer a few of these questions for me. I've heard people talk about their stumbleupon score being high and that has more influence on the pages they stumble. Is that true and how do you find out your score? I've apparently been banned from stumbling my own pages too much (I just get a blank page after the SU submit page and nothing happens) or from having to many people stumble for me in these forums, or from having referrers in these forums. So a few questions about this: How can you get unbanned? Is doing stumble exchanges in these forums just asking to get banned? Does SU check these forums for referrers or something like that?? I've seen some people mask their links for digg requests citing something similar. I guess that's enough questions for now. Thanks, James
It's the normal SU algorithm that prevents you from stumbling your own page too much. Solution? SU isn't made for people to promote their websites. It's made for you to share and discover pages that you like. It's an excitement to click the stumble button to discover the next page and clicking the thumbs down button for lousy website and giving thumbs up for good content. Just act like a normal stumblers (do click the stumble button, do give thumbs up and thumbs down for many websites) and I am sure your 'ban' will be lifted.
How about an answer to this... Is doing stumble exchanges in these forums just asking to get banned? Does SU check these forums for referrers or something like that?? I've seen some people mask their links for digg requests citing something similar. Anybody know??
Perhaps. They could easily detect the same patterns coming in if certain people are stumbling the same stuff, but I don't know if they penalize for that. My advice is to do lots of normal stumbling and only do a few exchanges, and don't stumble any crappy sites just to get a reciprocal stumble.
Is doing stumble exchanges in these forums just asking to get banned? No. Your chances of getting banned are very minor. But if you stumble upon webpages that others don't stumbleupon after you - your score will go down. That is why: its a good idea to not to stumble on all the exchange offers. Only stumble on good content that others are likely to stumble on too. Does SU check these forums for referrers or something like that?? As far as I know - SU doesn't go through the forums and check for these stumble exchange offers. But their logs are very sophisticated. They give weightage to your stumbles based on: 1. The number of friends and fans you have 2. The quality of your past stumbles (based on the ratio of other visitors stumbling on that page too) 3. If you review pages So if you take part in a stumble exchange program - SU will find out that one page that you voted on because of the exchange program - has 30 stumbles. But the record of all these 30 stumblers is poor - as their other stumbles have just 1-2 votes each. That doesn't seem right... That is how they find exchange sites and devalue them. Not by following forums. In short: only stumble on good quality sites. And if you submit your own page to a stumble exchange program - make sure its high quality content and that others would stumble on it on their own initiative.
Ah ha, after stumbling other pages, I can now stumble my own stuff again. I guess I just can't be so stumble greedy Thanks for all the answers, and thank you stumblegods
