I am not sure if any DP FMs have been following the story of Madelaine Mccann, a 3 year old girl who went missing from her Scottish parents summer apartment in the South of Portugal, 4 months ago. The couple, both Doctors, Kate and Gerry, claimed that their child had been abducted from the apartment while they were dining at a restaurant not far away. An intensive search ensued and Kate and Gerry Mccann embarked on a massive publicity campaign, even meeting the Pope and appearing on US television stations. David Beckham the English football star aired an appeal for the return of Madelaine. More than £1 million pounds has been raised by a special fund set up to finance the campaign. This week the story produced a twist. On Friday both Kate and Gerry were interviewed by the Portuguese Police and their status changed from witnesses to formal suspects. Allegations were also made months ago, by the Portuguese press that Madelaines parents were responsible for her death and disappearance. This case in my opinion has certain similarities with the 6 year old American girl JonBenét Ramsey who was killed in the basement of her home. Some of the questions that might have been asked by the Portuguese Police are : A website :http://www.findmadeleine.com was set up days after she went missing on 3rd May 2007. At one stage the site was getting 1 million hits a day. I only mentioned this to illustrate how this case has gripped the UK and some parts of the world. So what do you think. Did her parents kill her or was she abducted?
I have to say, NO ONE has been tried or been given the right of reply here. The questions and the sub-meanings the police would like to hear are all hypothetical. IMHO this should be left to any court that may need to ask these questions, this helps neither the/any prosecution or defence in any future trial. As a matter of interest, if the Police are not in a position to be able to LEGALLY publicise the questions they have put to Maddies parents, how are you? I am not in a position to be able to understand all the facts or analize both sides of this investigation, until I am or until a jury is given the opportunity to do so, I shall reserve judgement.
