    Hi guyz,

I would like to buy a new lap top but I'm not sure which OS should I install my questions about Windows Vista Home Premium.

First, is it right to buy a lap top with 2GB RAM to get the best performance?

Second, is it correct that Home Premium has an automatic back up point and Home Basic hasn't?

Thirdly, will I face any problems with my friends as I'm using Windows Vista and they using XP when we transfer files and documents such as office, sound, video and multimedia files?

    Thanks

    Hi

Im running Windows Vista Ultimate , 1 GB ram is enough unless you want to do some super gaming.Im not sure about te backup point , if that is true there will be some freeware program to replace the feature. You can transfer files just fine because it uses the same formats.

Thats good news about RAMs because I don't use it for games I need it for my study and daily use such as web, e-mails and multimedia stuff. So I think it will be enough according to your reply.

And it is also good news regarding the file transfer.

Thanks man for your reply, and waiting to hear from others.

2G of ram will be helpful though, even if you are not gaming...1G is the recommended minimum...I would go for the 2G as it gives you more to work with that is not being shared with the OS...

Yeah, I'm running Windows Vista home premium with 1GB of RAM. 1GB is the bare minimum. I had picked up another 1GB stick of RAM recently, which worked great for a little while. The OS seemed probably 15 to 20% faster, which is a huge difference. Unfortunately the RAM I got was crap though, so I had to send it back for a replacement. :(

2GB is definitely worth just for day to day office and graphic design. When I run Photoshop alone with my 1GB of RAM it maxes out and starts using the swap file.

Newegg is definitely the place. I'm running an Opteron 165, which uses DDR. I had bought this 1GB stick $66.99: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820609049

But now since I had to pay $5 for shipping to get it here, and $5 to return it, I would've just been better off to begin with getting a $75 stick of RAM that wasn't crap.

There is an automatic backup system on Windows Vista if you set it to do so. It's what im running.. although it takes 1 DVD or 7 CD's right at the start with nothing added :(

get good ram as well....if it says "value" or anything of the sort, don't buy it.....I prefer Corsair because the sticks are matched at the factory to make sure the pair works...

Vista sucks man, stick with XP if possible.

    My computer:

    AMD 64Bit X2 Dual Core
    3.5GB DDR2 RAM
    10K RPM Hard Drive
    512MB Graphics Card

And Vista even slowed my computer down. I went back to XP real fast. Plus, my friend just bought a new Dell that had Vista installed and he hated Vista so much he actually returned the computer and did a charge back to the credit card.

^I'm going to disagree with your opinion. I think Vista is actually quite good. It does take a little more RAM, but even then the speed is on par or better than XP.
