Is whois guard available for .us domains? Are people who are not Americans and do not live in the US allowed to get .us domains?
Registrars supporting .US domain names can't offer privacy services for them. It's a rule imposed on them by the .US registry Neustar. There's no rule saying non-US based people aren't allowed to register them. If you can demonstrate you have a "bonafide" US-based presence (address and state your interests there), you can definitely register a .US. Questions are do you really want to register a .US? If so, why? No need to justify to me, of course. But you might be called upon to justify it to the registration authorities, namely the registrar and/or the Registry.
Whois is available for .US domains. Also, Google the phrase "americans deserve privacy" and click on the first result to take you to a GoDaddy site that explains the whole .US domain mess. All the best, Bob
You mean Namecheap's interface will let you purchase whoisguard with a .US domain name? Not sure if it'll activate, though, and I wouldn't risk it.
Yeah, I didn't actually go through with the purchase, but when I was about to buy the .us it said that whois guard would be there
You may continue with speculation about this subject, but here are the facts, as spelled-out in this Wired dot com article, dated March 4, 2005 (see link below). Nothing has changed...nothing. I had registered nearly 200 .us domains, when all of this came about. Since then, I've spoken/written to both my U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative as well as, spoken/written to U.S. Dept. of Commerce; the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) on numerous occasions. GoDaddy and other registrars have nothing to do with this policy...registrars cannot circumvent the requirement set forth in the policy from NTIA, i.e. the U.S. Department of Commerce. www [DOT] wired [DOT] com/politics/security/news/2005/03/66787
