Hey everyone, Does anyone have know of any good resources to reference for optimizing a site that is going to be translated into another language (Spanish, French and possibly other languages)? Regards and TIA, Barry
I have only done one site in a language other than english. It was a spanish translation of a drug treatment website. What I did was optomize the english version fully, then I had it translated to spanish. I got three or four good one way links and voila, #1 rankings. I learned that for spanish there is no sandbox and optomizing is as easy as it was on google three years ago. However, It may be more difficult for much more competitive markets. I know that sandbox still exists for french, and german sites. That is all that I have experienced.
My experience with spanish sites is that if you can get the pages indexed they will almost certainly rank well with little to no optimization. This is because the competition is just not there. As the market grows though you should stay on top of the site to make sure it keeps a good position.
Yeah... Spanish sites are piece of cake to get ranked. the problem is getting any income from them, since no one buys things online, and you won't find any Spanish advertisers for CPM banners. And Adsense ads pay a couple of cents. I've always wondered what kind of site in Spanish could bring in good earnings... and I am still trying to think of something
Thanks for the feedback guys. Our income won't be generated via banner ads, so I'm not too worried about that. We will be publishing in languages other than Spanish though, which could include German, Italian, French, Japanese and more.
