Since about I month I get a few emails from people that want to buy links on my site (my pinball site - see sig). Don't know how they find me - I assume they see my posts here. Anyways they're mostly from gambling websites. Can it hurt my own site to have links to them ? And what's a normal price ? Someone offered me $10/month for a homepage link. I'm totally new to selling links (even not quite sure if I really want to do it).. Thanks..
Selling text links on your site could get you banned by Google. If you do it, you should take steps to make the links look natural and part of your content. Or if you want to be extra safe, tell the advertisers that you can only offer nofollow links. Most will probably say no thanks, but some may still be willing to pay for possible direct traffic.
You shouldn't sell links on your site because you might get banned from google, especially gambling sites
"selling" links will get you banned / penalized in google. How ironic considering Google sells links itself!
I think 20-30$ per month is a good price. i wouldn't do it thought, google will penalize you for selling links, google is very strict.
More then likely they found your website via the whois information for your domain name. There are programs out there that will harvest that information, mainly the name and email address and auto email you with whatever message they want to send. Anyhow as for selling links, if you plan on selling links on your site do not make them site wide links. Those are links that are displayed on every page of your site and by no means look "natural" to google. Secondly I would stay away from any gambling, porn, or even debt service websites these days as google considers them bad neighborhoods and will penalize your site.
Thanks everyone for the replies (esp semspot).. this confirmed what I thought so I will not sell links..
