i think that my forum may have been penalised for duplicate content? if it has would it be likely that all yahoo, google and live search engines all penalize me? how long do these penalties last for? some backgorund about my site. it is a new published site. from first week i was on google page 10-15 for the main key word of my site, i stayed there for about a month. then went to page 2-3 last week i went to page 1 #8 in google. on yahoo i was at #25 and on live i was at #3. at this time i addes ome content to a couple of blogs and added the same content to my forum. i used social bookmarking to bigup my main site thinking this would give me a traffic boost. however next day my site is removed form google and yahoo except one deep link which is ranking on page 14 of google all other serps for my main keywords are gone. so the reason i ned to know the answer to questions; if it has would it be likely that all yahoo, google and live search engines all penalize me? how long do these penalties last for? thanks all

New sites often get a little boost in the SERPs. After that you will drop to the place where you 'belong' and it is hard work to climb those SERPs. Did you do anything to get penalized? Read the guidelines of Google to see if you did the right things and then re-evaluate your site.
another thing is strange to me: in google webmaster tools top search queries has my site at position 8 for major search term. but when i use rank checker i am not ranked at all and i cannot find my site when i browse results pages. live have me back at position 3. i think it might have been for adding content from my blog then using digg and stumble to social bookmark are you sure? why do you think this?
i would really like to know what people think aboutthe fact that i get kicked from yahoo and google on the same day. i was #8 google and #25 yahoo then next day i was not ranking at all. i also i got kicked form live search but then a couple of days later live put me back to #3 if the content i bookmarked was duplicate would that matter?
two people so far have posted in this thread saying that i am not penalised, but not give me any information regards why they think it is not penalty and what might have happened instead, if you think this is not a penalty could you please tell me why you think this? why do you think is it not penalized? how will i know?
Social bookmarking has no affect on how your website will get treated. You may get a few extra visitors by social bookmarking your site/blog but as for a penalty...no way. If you look at the top sites on digg , they have been dug over 500 + times and there sites are not being penalized. You can drop this from your theory. Jason
absolutely! - this raises an immediate red flag for google, and probably the most common reason sites get penalized. I'm not sure why people just assume that you're not penalized... duplicate content will definitely hurt you. Read Google's webmaster guidelines
so does anybody know if it is likely that google and yahoo would both penalise me at the same time? and my other question was: how long do these penalties last for?

It sounds like the edits you made to the pages altered the OnPage SEO and that changed when it was indexed.
