lets say i find an article that I like, and rewrite it in my own words and it has changed the article by 80-90% is it safe to say the article then was written by me, even though I did not do all the research that should be put into writing an article?

I don't have time to spend hours researching an article to write my own, when I need 120+ articles in a few days to put up a site.

I manually re wrote it, and then used a text file comparison program and maybe 10-15 words are the same (in the same spot) for a 250-400 word article.

I just don't want to post a re-write then the other author seeing the article is basically the same thing but redone totally, yet it has the same flow to it.

    My rewrite

It has not been mention a lot but did you know that the final bailout plan issued by the government contains provisions that extends tax credits for home owners who invest in green technology?

    Written by me

    Original

"It has barely been mentioned that the final version of the bailout plan contains provisions to extend some tax credits for investment in green technology"

    Written by Brett Freeman

just a small part of the article, is that enough to pass copyright laws?

well, if the `final bailout plan' contains `certain provisions'.. anyone writing about that would have to term it accordingly, so i see no harm in your rewrite :)

Well, the person who wrote that article must have looked at some other articles. Very few articles on the Internet are actually written on the basis of meticulous library-style research. I would suggest looking at at least three different articles while rewriting one. You can often add more information to the article and make it better than the original. Do not rewrite word by word. Read the article first and try to rewrite it as you understood it. I think your example is not a good rewrite. There are many synonyms you could have used for most of the words, such as "contains", "mentioned", etc.

    Direct from the Copyright Office:

In short, you cannot rewrite an article and claim that you actually own the rights to it. That would be a derivative work, and permission to create them can only be given by the copyright holder.

The reality of the content game is that you either make the time, or you dish out the funds to pay someone else.

In addition, please search before asking questions. This one has been addressed dozens of times here.
