Questions about improving CTR

    Hi All :)

I've started getting into the world of doing some PPC. But been finding my CTR's are bad (we're talking 0.3% at worst, and 2% at best). I was wondering if there was a page out there that showed average CTR depending on your ad position, or if anybody has some anecdotal numbers they'd be willing to share.

Also generally I was looking for some advice on improving the CTR. I've looked at what the competition are doing and my copy doesn't seem to be vastly different, so in short I'm a bit confused :(

    Thanks.

Ad placement: don't put too many ads as you don't want it to look spammy, but also make sure the ads you do place look like they could be part of the website and in a place where you might click them if you were visiting your website

Ad Colors: blend the color of your ads to match your website so they don't pop out and say "I'm just another stupid ad, click me so the publisher can earn 20 cents"

and if you have hubs on hubpages or niche blogs/ websites a method someone just introduced to me that is helping with clicks is leaving something unknown. Meaning if my website is about socks, I write about socks but leave some information out so the viewers have a reason to click an ad. If I answered every question perfectly than they wouldn't have any reason to click an ad.

You should try to put different ad units/ link units in different ad placements. Use 250*250 or 336*280 etc in different places. See which combination gives you the best CTR. Keep experimenting with ad placements.

The traffic source is affecting the CTR, see whether your traffic is targeted.
Other that than, content and ads placement is another two manor factors affect your CTR

    How Keywords Strategies Influence CTR

General keywords generate a lot of impressions but few click-throughs and even fewer conversions, because they can't really filter the potential customers. Specific keywords on the other hand are more focused, therefore they have more power to select potential clients.

Ways to use keywords for increasing your CTR:

    * Avoid using very general keywords (shoes).
    * Focus on using targeted keywords which describe your actual products or service in a rather specific way (repair jogging shoes).
    * Collect all related keywords in targeted Ad Groups.
    * Create ads that are highly targeted to the keywords in that Ad Group.
