Questions about ad placement...

    Hi,

Google is well-known for kicking people out for even the slightest (questionable) error/misplacement of ads.
I studied the AdSense terms/policies carefully and it sounds quite ambiguous...

I am trying to create the best possible DIV frame for a site: ads will appear on a certain part of the page, but unsure, whether Google will like it or not.

I've seen so many sites placing all their AdSense ads on a right vertical DIV, usually at the bottom part. Very few people ever click there!

I know Google doesn't allow exaggerated ad placement above fold, nor do the like it if ads can be confused with content, nor do the like it if you push content below the ads.

I want to do this, I wonder what opinion you have...:

-Place 3 250x250 all image/banner-displaying ads, one under each other vertically, on the central-left part (not on the top part of the page, but in the central area), on a distinguishable gray backround
-on the right from these, text with title links will appear
-there will be many boxes on the page, some with the same gray background displaying my own links and images >>> similar to the gray boxes with AdSense content
-my other concern: because the ads appear on the left side and my text and links will appear on the right, they might think they're associated with the ads
-my design will be rather asymmetrical with boxes here and there...

Not sure, should I separate the AdSense ads more vividly, like "push them away" from anything that may be "too close, too similar, might seem connected" with them?

If so, then almost nobody will click on my ads.

Change the color of the adsense text so that people can distinguish between actual post and the ads. Google bans the account if your post/site/account gets too many invalid clicks due to closeness to post text.

Also, why not place them like this - one left, one right and then left again?

    Hope that helps.

Good point... but what do you mean by "invalid clicks". Is there such a thing as "invalid clicks"?
    They get clicks, right?

As a matter a fact, my AdSense account does show lots of 0 $-worth clicks and not sure why... sometimes I get dozens a day that bring no income at all...

It is not invalid Clicks, It is because you don't have a niche on which advertisers giving high money.

Invalid clicks are subtracted from Your monthly earnings after that month is over which gives what we call Finalized earnings. Hope it helps

I have many low and zero-paying "clicks". Prolly they are either pay-per-view ads or... I'm not targetting my customers well enough.

I can't visualise your site from your description, but I keep trying new ad positions every month, never had any grief off google for it. The only precautions I take are to not match the colours too closely and not to overload the page with ads. From my experience, the earning bear no relation to what I think will work - in fact the places I think are going to be awesome don't make a thing, and it's usually the odd spots that I think will not work that are optimal. Just test, test, test...I don't think there are any rules that work every time.

While your ad placement plan looks ambitious on paper, i think it can easily raise red flags with Google. Supposing you decide to go ahead with your vertical ad placement plan and begin generating a high CTR, Google will visit your site. Then they will decide whether your ad placement is too ambitious. Remember, Google will not hesitate to err on the side of caution meaning you can easily get banned if they have the slightest issue with your ad placement. why not place three ads at different areas of your site and keep on testing month after month to find out what works?
