[Question to Indians] Which Bank is best for $ checks?

    to add to inman's post, the accounting officer at the bank also has discretionary powers. Work up a good relationship with your banks account officer. Let him know that you have had 2 or 3 cheques that were successfully cleared in the past few months (to show him that you are not a risk).
    Ask him if he can allow discouting on future cheques that you might receive.
    There is a service charge involved with discounting. Make sure you learn about that too.
    Also find out what happens if the exchange rate fluctuates in the period that you have done a discounting. will the bank take back the excess amount from your account. will they give you additional amount into your account (hah:p )
    check out these things throughly with all banks.
    It helps tremendously if you have a relative working at that bank (make sure that your cheques dont bounce ;))
    ps: do not give cheques with small amounts for discounting, unless you are sure about the rates.
