Well....You probably should not be stuffing your title to the point that you need to separate keywords. BUT, I seem to have had better luck using the | rather than commas when i do need to separate something.

I hardly use it, but I think that would make it look a lot better!

I always use | (or pipe, whatever you call it) in my Blogs and Sites.
I never noticed any negative impact on SERP.

I use comma when I need to conserve character space.

    WORD | WORD
    WORD, WORD

I think it depends on the situation. If your keywords can be written in one sentence, one phrase - use commas. If they are from different spheres and you can't write a sentence that has sence - use pipe.

    I don't thinks that there is a difference ..
    Personally, I use hyphens ( - ) or ( | ) .......

    it's not a big deal ...

The last seomoz policy update article gave a model :
Primart keyword - Secondary keyword | Brand Name

but it's up to you ...

In fact sometimes it's better to just have:

    Primary Keyword | Brand Name

and then your other term becomes another page with specific and more focused information.
Of course this doesn't apply always.

It hardly matters which separator you use in the Title, Use your targeted keywords as per the content of the web page.

Yup, Google don't give much importance to the keyword in the title but if you improve the keyword density in your content then it would help you in much better way.

But still for your question, I would say that you should use '|' to make it look better..

You're best keeping your title tags short and sweet.

In theory seperating words with commas or whatever is taking up extra characters, this making the others less importance.

I don't agree .. Longer is better .. If you have the opportunity to integrate more keywords in the homepage title and at the same time keep it readable .. so why not doing it ?

Sorry ? what do you mean by "Google don't give much importance to the keyword in the title" ?

    I hope I misunderstood ..

We tested the A & B and concluded a simpler TITLE caused more clicks in the SERPS, even though the long one brought a wider variety of phrase searches in.

We compensated by creating dedicated landing pages and deep linking for those terms removed from the cleaned up TITLE.

Yes, it's better from a click through rate point of view .. But losing the power of the title tag in the homepage (I personally believe it's the most important RANKING factor) isn't a big deal .. Unless you are targeting one single keyword ..

I didn't understand the second part of your answer so far, could you explain more?

Use "-" or "/" for that.
