Hello, So to start off I want to give you a little background about myself and what I'm asking. I'm a junior in college studying marketing. I had an interview today at a large company for a marketing internship. It pays well and there are a ton of applicants. My interview said I was one of 5 selected for the interview, anyway here is my question. He asked me how I would create a sense of brand recognition in untapped niche markets around the country. He basically told me we have a huge budget and anything is possible. Its a retail brick and mortar only business. They advertised the internship as a social media marketing internship so I'm thinking they may want to go down that road. He wants me to send over some ideas, do you guys have any suggestions or thoughts on how I should approach this. I want to develop a solid email for him but want to get some good ideas first. Anything will help or any resources will help! Thank you very much for the time.
I think this is a tough one, you won't get an answer at this forum, you should really braintorm first what kind of advertising possibilities are there. Is it only branding ? or do they want actual sales onlne?
Shouldn't you be doing this on your own, since he wants to hire the best person for the job? And if you are 1 of 5, shouldn't you be good enough to know the answer? I'm afraid your post really didn't give enough info to give you back a solid answer. But, the bottom line is that he has to advertise. Period. Social networking can take such a company like that so far. In fact, social networking for the purpose of marketing is HIGHLY overrated. You're the student on this...do your research, and you will see for yourself. Already established and well-known companies, like, say, Best Buy, do far better because they offer up big sales and notices on their products. His budget could possibly be wasted on social networks, when instead it could be used for very creative advertising. But, he's not going to want to hear that, huh? To wing it for now, I would point out the site, fmylife.com. It's a popular site visited by more than 1,000,000 monthly visitors. They have a page in Twitter. That's not why they have so much traffic, hell, not even close, but it's something to show him. If he doesn't know already, tell him through your research that those kinds of sites do the best. Sites that give free advice, help others for free also do well. So, he should focus on that angle. To be ready to wow him, I would suggest typing up a script on what to tell and show him. Act like he is sitting in front of you, and begin your fictitious interview.
