Hi, I was running an Image Upload Site . I am currently using a cheap shared host - specs 20GB space, 200GB Bandwith However recently traffic is getting higher in the recent months. I checked I was only using around 10GB space and average 100GB bandwith per month (I'm hosting only this one website for this one host plan - currently below Alexa 35K) but I got an email from my host suspending my account. I was searching this thread and found out about dedicated server and VPS? Can anyone explain about them and why I was suspended eventhough I wasn't even exceeding my plan limit? I've sent a few email to my host but they just emailed but saying I was exceeding limits and just recommended me to buy their VPS costing around 30 Euro per month Which is really expensive compared to the earlier one just $3 per month.. Appreciate any answer. Thanks
Hello WebmasterTL, The only other reason i can think of as to why your account was suspended was because you were using too many resources within the shared hosting environment. With a VPS you are dedicated your own resources in which you can use to its full capacity. You would also have better performance on a VPS than you would on a shared hosting environment. For an image hosting website i would also recommend a VPS as they do tend to use quite a bit of resources based on my experience of over 3 years in the hosting industry. A VPS is Virtual Dedicated Server. They have most if not all of the features of a dedicated server for a fraction of the price, the reason for this is because providers are able to make many VPS accounts per dedicated server. I would suggest that you do go for a VPS for your image hosting website, you will be guaranteed your own resources and will not run into problems with getting your account suspended because your VPS will be isolated from other users hosted on the same system, meaning that if your VPS ever uses excessive resources, other users websites/VPS will not have their performance affected. Hi, can you explain more on CPU usage? Isn't bandwith the important question here? Aren't I'm allowed to use my allowed bandwith limit? I see. VPS seems nice but I mentioned I'm not interested to spend around 30 Euros @ $45 USD per month just to support my image site, What price do you recommend for my site. Do you have any suitable VPS? What is an average good price usually for VPS? Thanks everyone. I'm not that familiar with host stuffs.
Its the software your using that could be using a lot of resources on the server, making other client's websites load slower etc... We have some VPS servers starting at $19.95 15Gb DiscSpace and 200Gb bandwidth!

Interesting. I am making average around $330 with that image website alone so i guess I can spare that $20-$30 for a good hosting VPS. However is Cpanel included? Other features? Also what is your server specs? Is it 100% uptime? Thanks Coz I'm actually renting space from my friends server right now and I have around 2,3 weeks before I need to transfer my site.
