Hi everyone, I am thinking about changing the categories for a WP blog but would still like to maintain the old categories and related pages since they are indexed by Google. Is there a good way to go about doing this? Thanks. Rich
Hi, That doesn't work well because of the change in subject matter. What I was thinking of doing, if there is no better way to handle it, was to use the permalink migration plugin to build a new category structure, and use a menu plugin to hide the old categories as much as possible. Any comments? Rich
you can delte the categories. the posts will stay but no longer be linked to from your main page, still there in archives tho.
@richrf I'm in the process of narrowing the focus on my blog also. I want to keep the old posts, but deleting the old categories will mess up the SE indexing. For now, I created a few new categories, edited my posts to be listed in the new categories also, and linked to the category from my home page by creating my own categories list through the sidebar widgets feature. I'm wondering if this method messes with SEO. Also, the old categories still show up in the posts info where the comment count, date stamp, etc. is shown, so I'm not so sure if my way is the right way to go. Would you post here when you decide what you're going to do? I'm interested in finding the most efficient technique for the process also.
