Question regarding forum backlinks

I've heard about creating backlinks to help rank your site higher on google, which will in turn mean more traffic. Some of these strategies include forum posting, with posting a link to your site in your signature. What people have failed to add is a little bit more details on that issue.

I'm wondering if I should focus on one forum, and post as much as possible, or try to simply get my link posted once on various different forums? Should I create an account, add my link in my sig, and post only once for each forum?

Most all link's from a forum will be no-follow. This will not give you page rank but will still bring in more traffic! I would do as many as possible on different forums, I would also shoot for some do-follow links as well for ranking purposes.

Its not just about joining forum and putting up signatures you should participate the forum regularly, contribute the discussion and have some friends.

I'm not talking about general advertising, i'm talking about it strictly in the form of what is effective via backlinks. I'm not saying I'm spamming, but if I'm going to be creating backlinks, I'm wondering if I should have a thousand posts on one forum, or 100 posts each on 10 forums with my link on those ten forums.

It can be better to have your link on a variety of sites rather than just one. Some sites are rated higher or better in a manner of speaking. So in that case 1 good site would be better than 10 poor quality or poorly rated. But, if you found mostly decent sites it would likely be better to have your link on more than 1 forum or whatever site.

The best way to get backlinks from forums in ad your website in signature... But nowadays, all the reputed forums are turning nofollow. So, chances of getting backlinking credit is reducing and your links will just get traffic for your website.

It doesn't hurt to post a couple of times on each forum because then we're hitting quantity at the same time as quality, which is ideal.

Try to contribute some value to each forum when you're posting, they will be less likely to delete your posts and/or links then.
