Question regarding ezines and blogs...

I have just written some articles about my niche and will soon submit them to ezines. The question I have is - should I start a blog and put those same articles up? Or should I re-write them?

Ezine publishers tend to go for exclusive stuff, so I would keep a set of articles for ezine publishers only and write other articles for promotion and content...

    I agree.

If you are going to start a blog, use new "exclusive" content for that blog, but you can make it related to the niche...

In addition to the rules mentioned above that govern the article directories, I would only post unique content to your blog because of duplicate content penalties. You want your blog to have quality unique content that is useful to your readers and helps you improve your search engine rankings. If you post the same articles that appear on other sites, your search engine rankings will not benefit.

Wow! Four replies and all four tell you (or imply) that you CAN NOT use
    your own work. LOL

    This is insane.

Have you guys missed the point of article directories? Their purpose is to
redistribute the articles; that's what they do.

And YOU are doing the same thing if you have a blog with RSS feed.

    It's called syndication!

So, you're telling this guy that if he uses his own work he will somehow
suffer, while thousands of other sites can republish his work and benefit.

    Unbelievable!

No offense Bompa, there is no one way or right way as you allude to in your post.

I can't speak for all, but from a general experience point of view, this idea is often mentioned as a Best Practice. Best Practice however does not apply to all people or situations.

Depending on the time available, topic, goals and methods, we each find a different but similar path.

I do not believe in the duplicate penalty theory, which is a misnomer at best and depends on many factors. I have seen the same article list many times in a row on a search engine with a high rank, but not generally.

slaker84 seems to be torn what to do and whether he wants or needs a blog.

I agree with the advice because regardless of the "philosophy", I see that slacker84 is a, I assume, native English or high-level English writer. If he writes well, he could develop his blog into a stand-alone flagship blog.

If he works hard and becomes an expert in his niche, I assume the niche could have depth and not just a handful of marketing posts, he may not have to article market at all and tour the world lecturing about his niche because he developed a great reputation.

Alternatively, he may have people breaking down his digital doors to advertise on his very popular blog, so many possibilities when you develop a brand.

If he had written, "I have just written some articles about my niche and will soon submit them to ezines. The question I have is - should I create landing pages", it would be a different reply.

Since he asked about a blog, I assume he means a "real" one and not a temporary money making method because he is thinking long-term and hoping for financial stability.

I use article marketing to drive traffic to blogs, you may use article marketing to drive to something else and we could both be very successful.

Yes, Article Marketing could be considered a form of syndication but it could also be considered a stand-alone method, traffic-driving marketing technique (my style) or giant ad.

I prefer a more controlled syndication method such as feeds so I can maintain control and change monetization.

In regards to, "So, you're telling this guy that if he uses his own work he will somehow suffer, while thousands of other sites can republish his work and benefit".

That's seems to be off point. We said yes, do use the article directories!

Again, I assume slaker84 is a male between 16 and 25, native to the US and purple with red stripes. Luckily, this whole forum idea allows for many voices and opinions.
