    Hi!

We need to optimize our online store.

The question: is it OK from SEO point of view, to place a product simultaneously in 2 or 3 different categories, because it has equal relation to both of them?

I think, this will harm the whole idea of SEO, because this way we are getting 2 or 3 pages with almost the same content... at the same time, the site will have more pages... What do you think?

What are general guidelines to SEO for a product catalog?

    Best,

For eCommerce sites, this is the biggest problem they face is duplicate content.

Here's the answer: You can add a single product in multiple categories (if it best fits there). Just try to make different sementic versions (variations) of your page titles, description. This is not to trick search engines, it is just to make something unique on your pages to give more weight. However, Google would filter the duplicate content itself and I never heard that duplicated content caused any harm or faced penalty by Google or from any other search engine.

    Good luck,
