Question on disabling comments

I have a blog that I would like to disable comments after a couple of weeks for each post, firstly would this affect my google ranking as i am number 1 for my subject. Secondly I found this info on how to do it.

    10. Close Comments on Older Posts
Sometimes it is wise to close comments on older posts. WordPress has this as a built-in feature where you can specify a number of days and WordPress will automatically close the comments on articles older than this many days. All you have to do is go to Settings ~ Discussion and check this box

Also if you would like to disable comments after a period of time just set the amount of days and then click the box, shown as number 10 here

The trouble is I don't seem to have this option, are there different kind of admin areas with wordpress? I thought they would all be the same.

    Thanks for any help

I think closing comments may effect ranking if your blog is not a high traffic blog. It may be like that one of your post on some hot topic came on page 1 or 2 but won't be able to sustain its position...... And regarding the other matter... which version of wordpress you're using currently?

I know Problogger disables comment after 90 days, but then he can attract between a hundred to 400 comments.
I dont see any point to disable comments if you receive less than that.
To protect your keyword density, you can always reply to every comment using the keywords.
