hi - have a query on memory.

is memory backwards compatible on speed. As in my notebook accepts 266mhz memory - if i put in 333mhz - will it accept this?

    thanx

It depend on the motherboard. If your notebook can support up to 333MHz memory, should be no problem. If not, it's not compatible.

your notebook speed is only 266mhz and your motherboard speed is 333mhz so your notebook speed is less then your motherboard speed this is why it is not acceptable, but you need to check

Maybe you can have a try. Your hardware may support that setting.

Go to crucial.com and see what speed and type of RAM the laptop supports.

You can't put 333 Mhz memory into a motherboard that's designed to take 266 Mhz memory, and nothing with a higher speed than that.

First see the speed which u'r Motherboard can compatible with. If it is your can run at 333mhz memory but if not then the memory inserted could be damaged.

Crucial Technology CT12864X335 1GB PC2700 DDR 333MHZ 200PIN SODIMM 2.5V ... are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. .... That machine only seems to support PC2100 memory (266MHz), but this ended up being cheaper than any PC2100 I could find and is backward-compatible, so it works fine. ...

check your motherboard compatibility or just google the brand and model of your laptop then you'll see if it could handle 333mhz
