    Hello everyone,
    i have worked with MySQL database engine by using console as wel as PHPmyAdmin.
    Now i want to gain some skills in Microsoft's SQL Server 2008, Oracle and other worth learning brands.
    as they all do the same task the queries must be same or at least nearly same.

    I am looking for a resource that can teach me these two (MS SQL and Oracle) from very basics to at least a middle level Pro.
    i consider their usage as follows:
    MySQL Express === Medium size and traffic, personal or academic based projects
    MSSQL ======== Commercial purposes,
    Oracle RDBMS ==== Highly professional and busy site;
    i might be wrong though
    Does IBM db2 still live

    IBM DB2 - in our bank is still alive...
    well. what was your quiestion?
    SQL and Oracle are in use in big companies,
    MySQL - is for web/internet applications... there were already several threads on this...

    If you only want to learn the programming part of MSSQL search for "T-SQL" at Amazon and check out the reviews.
    If you want to learn a little bit more in detail search for "MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit SQL" at Amazon and buy the Microsoft Press books.

    Also, google "Microsoft Books Online". That is a great resource.
