Question: How difficult is it to receive pagerank

I was wondering if someone could clarify pagerank for me. I understand that it is on a scale of 1-10, and it says basically how many 'votes' you have out there? What I am curious about is if someone can give me a 'perspective' on it, or a frame of reference.

What does a pagerank 3 mean?

What does a pagerank 5 mean?

What does a pagerank 6 mean?

I am trying to figure out if it is worth my time to try and up the pagerank (or how long will it take) as the number ones for my 'search phrase' have a pagerank of 6. I figure if I found a way to match it, I might be doing a bit better.

As a side note, anyone know how often pagerank is checked "or how do you figure out how often it is checked"

Thank you very much for your help in answering this.

Page rank is updated about every 3-5 months now. A page rank of 6 and above is very respectable and doesn't come easy. The best thing to do is not think about it and focus on making your site as good as it can be. Then, the page rank will come.

Just get some sites with high PR to link to you and give it about 3-4 months and you'd see the graceful increase.

Anything above 4 PR is good for a site, get links from sites with a good amount of PR, or possibly buy links from them and then the Pagerank will be put on your site, it will however appear in the Google Toolbar with its update in 3-4 months

Don't focus on PR, it's entirely possible for a site with a lower PR to outrank one with a higher Pagerank. The main factor in determining SERPS rankings is incoming links from relevent sites. Concentrate on those and you'll rank well
