I am posting this thread in this section because its a directory-related question... Why do webmasters are reluctant to pay for a review/listing on a low PR directory while they know that a high PR directory can lose its rank anytime (happens all the time!!)...how do you decide that its "safe" to pay for a high pr directory submission??? Regards P.S.: a good low pr directory often works hard for its promotion while many high pr directories stop/reduce link building/ promoting their directory once it gets a certain pagerank...worse, some sadly "sell" the directory!
Because in the past there was an attempt at brainwashing, partly by some directory owners themselves to constantly drum out the message that pr was the thing to go for. But mainly throughout the webmaster community there has been an obsession, its almost like an addiction to some webmasters. But the reality is people look for pr and i can confirm that often less business (purchasing of links) comes to a website if theres little to no pr, a sad case but it is the case unfortunately, not a standard but it often happens. Strong point you have too about the reluctance toward a lower pr, its interesting that they will pay for the higher pr, only to see it possibly drop right down, i think it would be better to take the chance on the lesser pr sites, hopefully with less of an outlay so that if pr drops it doesn't leave people feeling bitter as much. When it comes to pr, purchasing of links, reviews etc theres really no safe i feel. At your own risk and outlay basically.
I think it is all about promotion, I have had lots of submissions in the past to PR0, 1, 2, 3 directories. Also it is virtually impossible to get a listing on a page within a directory that has any PR, so high home page PR means very little and PR itself means almost nothing, especially when it comes to SERP's
For me it's about the quality of the directory. If it looks like the directory is well edited and the listings in the category where I'll be listed are all related then PR doesn't matter because the directory owner seems to be here for the long run. I also look at the cache date and do a Google search for the page where I'll be listed. If those check out then chances are the directory will be around for a while and in time it's link value will rise.
PR is often used by directory owners to claim that their directory has higher PR and hence is better. This environment is created by directory owners themselves and many webmasters can't really understand the whole thing and go with what 'experts' have been saying.
but general people are also influenced by PR people think its waste of time to submit to new directories my new directory {its my first & last directory as i will keep it forever} has zero PR so one one submits to my directory. just crossed 100 links today www.urll.info
