Hi, I'm just about to sell my first site and was wondering what is the typical way sellers handle hosting. Do they usually just transfer the existing hosting account for the sold site over to the buyer? Or do they simply ask the buyer to create their own hosting account? And if the latter, does the seller then ask for access to the buyers new hosting account to upload the site there? I'm just trying to get an idea of what is the norm involved in the typical seller/buyer transfer process. Thank you.
If you dont mention anything in the sales thread, the norm would be the buyer is taking care of the web hosting requirements. As an incentive perhaps though, you could offer free hosting on your current servers.
The few sites I sold so far, I never offered hosting. I allow for a reasonable time to make hosting arrangements and helped moving the sites where needed. Usually after 2 weeks I want my server to be clean. Hosting is cheap - it is not really an incentive for more experienced buyers. Christoph
Same here, unless the buyer or potential buyer asks for hosting with me, I give them 7 days to transfer then I delete the site from my hosting account. Majority of buyers have their own hosting as they want better control over their new sites. I may offer to keep hosting for a reasonable fee. Same when I purchase a site, I check to make sure I can move it to my hosting account. Some sellers will not let you do that, as they want to make money in the hosting. Love those sellers that say they will not transfer the domain for some period of time just to keep you on their expensive hosting. I avoid those and those that say I have to keep the hosting with them.
Well, in this case I recommended a host in my auction. What about delivery of the website? I didn't say how this would be done. Do you guys usually just upload it to the host and call it delivered? Or do you also send all the pages as attachments or on a CD to the buyer? Thanks again.
