Question for those who run directories

I'm sure most of you know how some directories rank sites by the PR. So, due to circumstances a while back, some of my listings are low ranking currently. My question is this -- do you all know if most of these directories refresh these values when a PR update occurs? Or if that is even easy to do globally with the directory software? I wonder how many will do it even if it is easy? What do you all think?

Probably depends on the software, but at least for the one I'm using, I believe that it is automatic. Seems like it would have to be for all of them given that people are always submitting new sites - the list basically needs to be reordered every time a new site gets put on there.

I imagine it only checks the one you're adding and stores the values for those already listed. Otherwise, it would be quite bad on performance when adding new listings. If they have the ability to recheck, I think it would have to be a command somewhere to do it.

Chris, I dont think any script stores the values. Most scripts check the PR on run time. So if that is the case, rankings in those directories should be affected by the pagerank. And therefore may in some cases bring links on better pages etc.

I never thought about this. Good point.

With regard to www.phplinkdirectory.com software, it first checks when the listing is added, and then it can be updated. We have helped several members in our support forums do this site wide. Since large automated queries are discouraged by google, we don't publish a method for doing this, but again, have shown a few folks how they can do it.

Aha. That's about what I thought. The reason I thought this is because some sites show blazemp.com as PR6, some show as PR0, and some show as PR3. So, I know it can't be updating in real-time.

With such issues in place, it makes you wonder if the PR on a lot of sites will just be stuck at the values when first submitted.

Honey - do you mean that some scripts you know check all 3000 (or however many listings a directory has) all at one time? Seems risky. I think the ideal setup for such scripts would be to have a command to execute the checks (placed in a prominent location so that directory owners will know about it and realize it should be used when a PR update occurs), but to not do them all at one...instead, divide them up, and do a batch...then another batch a couple hours later...etc., until they are done.
