Much like this site, I am putting ads after the first post in threads. I notice DP is utilizing adlink, where I am using the banners. the adlinks look much less distracting, but are they generall as effective? Curious what people that have experimented with both options in that spot have learned? I know it is different for different sites, and I will be trying both ways to see what seem to work the best for me as well.
you could have it so that half the time it is a banner and the other half an adlink. That might decrease ad blindness.
i would think the reg units are more effective than the link units.. although the link units are cleaner and less annoying.. What forum software are you using?
I run a skyscraper down the left hand side, under the forum nav links, and I have a 468x60 banner at the bottom, after the last post and above the quick reply (so that it gets looked at more often). This seems to work the best of all the combos I have tried so far. I haven't tried any adlinks inline with posts, however.
if your are using phpbb then inline ad frame Mod is available - it has several options and very good mod - give it a try
I gave up on adsense on forums. My forum's topic is such that unless I get a lot of clicks, I don't make anything. If you have high paying keywords, it might be worth it. So I just use a leaderboard banner ad at the top now. More than pays for the forum hosting and some change.
he is using vB3 - hey Mike! 1. leaderboard up top under navbar works well 2. ads on the archive work well 3. I like the link units under first post Good luck!
Hello! I have found it next to impossible to get the leaderboard under the navbar, due to the style that I have removed any option from the template for me to get it there. I do have ads in the archives. Are you gettin a good ctr with the link units under the first post?
ctr will vary considerably depending on your forum audience. computer related forums perform poorly in my experience. but i think football would be a lot better!
I'm going to try out adlinks after the last post. I'll report back if I see any improvement over a banner with images above it.
