Question for the SEO experts

Many a times I have wondered how certain websites with no relevant title tag or domain name can rank for certain keyphrases. Today I found one such site and using it as an example I was hoping someone could shed some light on it.

I Googled the key phrase "hair weaving new york" without the quotes and this website nandehairsalonDOTcom comes on the first page.

I checked and found that it has negligible back links and and an even worse Page title.

If so I was wondering how such a website could come on the first page - especially when there are 14,000 other websites that use the keyphrase in their Page title ?

Could someone shed some light please ?
    Thanks in advance

Any website that show as result into Google first page is related by keywords search phrase or unique content. It does not necessary mean domain have those same type in traffic keywords.

Most of the time Google will index only unique pages, website, and domain name ..
    I hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, I hope you'll understand that I am just trying to analyze the situation and do not have anything against the site (just clearing it before I get flamed).

As you see the site has the word New York in just one (last) page as opposed to the 3% to 5% ratio that we are normally told.
The website has just a PR 1 opposed to the other sites and no Alt tag for the images anywhere.

This is just a 5 page website - the word weaving is in just 2 places so how does it rank on the first page for the key phrase "hair weaving new york" (without the quotes).

As mentioned earlier I just want to take this as a case study and I am hoping that these series of questions and answers will also help others to understand SEO better.

    Thanks.

It is not that unusual, really aged and old sites rank high. It is a strategy advanced marketers use. You buy an old aged domain name and site in your niche that is still live. A lot of them still have high page rank and good links intact and great Domain Names and- are still live and ranked in Google.

And voila- instant first page to build your new site on. Also a few powerful links to page rank 8 sites rank higher than 200 page rank 2 sites. ;)
