How do you search? Do you go to your country specific searchengine or do you just use a regular searchengine like Google? And if you don't use an country specific searchengine how do you search? Would you search using the term "microwave oven" or "microwave oven Australia"? Thanks
For me living in Canada, when I go to Goole.com it directs me to Google.ca. I only type my country, province or city into a search string if I am searching for products that I am gonna buy in a store. If it is something that doesn't matter where it is from I will just seaqrch the keyword minus any geographic area. I hope this helps.
Yeah, Google will direct you to the local Google site. And site's in the language you search in will be prioritized. Very few use localized search engines, the large ones are much better, even if they are not specialized on my local market.
In my opinion, i think it depends on what you want to search for and your purpose of searching. If it is for marketing purpose, of course, and you want to search for the number of competitors that are available in that country, then you have to use the country's ip websites like vtunnel for us ip. Then, it will give you results based on the results available in that country. But if you make any search using your ip, then you are getting results either in your country or worldwide
Interesting stuff. I wasn't thinking of marketing and optimizing for different country searchengines when I made the post, but it has crossed my mind in the past. Thanks guys
In Google Webmaster Tools there's even a function where you can gear your site towards a special region or country. Like, I only care for french visits and listings in Google.FR instead of Google.COM. That way you can see how well you rank and place for that region, language or country. It's all very simple, as Google's mission is to deliver the best suited content to each user, no matter how specific the question.
