Question for Niche Marketers

    So,

I've been in the background here for about 6 months now. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. Following as many threads as I can understand :S hah.

I thought it's about time to step out into the ring and ask a question that has been bugging me for a long time, and I'm looking to get your personal opinions on this topic:

In every e-book or thread I read on internet marketing setups I see so many niche topics just thrown around as examples. Diet, Biz Opp, Adult entertainment... These example 'niche scenarios' that entire "how to" tutorials are founded on are always the most competitive, commercial and overdosed things available...

My question is: Do you focus on the most commercial niche you can found a solid idea on? If so, why? If not, what did you learn/know that made you focus on your chosen groups of niche marketing?

I've attempted to follow a passion of mine, which was personal development and growth... I picked all the wrong phrases, setup the entirely wrong marketing system and found that even though I was passionate about it, my interest for the niche (however terrible it was) ran very dry. Which put me back in the side lines...

Can you give me any advice on a trial process I could begin in to help define what marketing I should partake in? I know that a lot of you will say "try everything" or "anything could work for me", but be a little bit more down to earth for me and explain to me how you discovered your hot spots in the market?

I'd appreciate anything you want to share...

Niche marketing can be great, fast and generate a nice income if you know what you're doing. You asked for tactics on marketing so I'm going to give you a few quick tips on niche marketing.

    1) Know your audience. You need to know your target demographic very well in order to market to them as best as possible. Install some sort of tracking/analytic's data which covers where your visitors are coming from and check out related sites on Quantcast.com to understand more about their gender, age, salary etc. Anything you can use to better leverage your visitors into finding a product they need... the better.

    2) Blast the competition. In niche markets, and definitely micro niche markets if you go the right way about it you can blast your competition out the water in a matter of weeks if not days. You just need to remember the phrase KEYWORDS. Include your keyword wherever possible. Target your domain, homepage title and description for the primary keyword you're targetting.

    3) Tactic differentiation. The way you're going to monetize your site will be different from niche to niche. If you're running a site about ringtones you'll probably be interested in doing a mix of adsense or other CPC programmes with some free CPA lead offers as most people looking for ringtones aren't really looking to buy (based on the fact that like the second most searched keyword for ringtones is "free ringtones"). On the contrary, those looking for physical tangible goods like a particular shaver (made that up off the top of my head) are most likely to be looking for reviews or to buy the product so CPS offers would accomodate their needs well.

    4) Personalization. Marketing online is taking a big turn and seeing far more personalization in terms of how the marketing is done. These days some of the top marketers are using video review tactics simply because it makes the visitor feel like the person is involved with the product. Subtle sales. Don't act like a salesman, act like a satisfied consumer and simply recommend the product. Conversions are far more likely to happen if the visitor sees that you actually have the product and are talking about it rather then a manufacturer video in which the actor acts like a god damn robot.

    Just a few tips.

You can certainly make more money writing about loans or mesothelioma, but I think the best way is to write about something you are really interested in -- that way it is enjoyable for you to work on your sites.

    1. I tend to begin my efforts with deciding what I want to market... for example, I am not big into "snake oil" products like acai berry because of the way they conduct business. I would much rather give something profitable to the people that actually helps someone. Then from that point I do keyword research... find the niche... make sure I can turn a profit on the product and make sure it is a marketable product.

    2. I really found my spot that I enjoy simply through finding out about myself and what I want to do... I know alot of people may blast me about this but... If you do something you want to market opposed to "snake oil" you are generally passionate about what you are doing. I believe over all this is what makes me successful in my efforts of giving people legit offers and not polluting the internet with crap.

edrectory: Thanks dude, it's actually nice to read that coming from a person - rather than a badly rewritten article based ebook! I value the points you made much more highly because of it. Some great points in there that I guess I haven't really experienced because, well, from lack of experience... heh but very good to know :)

mariner7: fair enough man, which approach do you cater for the most? Generic/Commercial or Passion/Interest?

cash: excellent mate, thanks a lot :). I feel that I need to take part in whats going on because from your response it feels like you've organically developed a position in niche marketing that's really tailored for you. The idea of all this robot style marketing doesn't really appeal to me...

Is there any particular niche that you guys have in your marketing folio that you feel is great to personalize yet caters to a really good audience? Any direction you'd advise me to take?

Most of my niche marketing has been regional, so it really narrows the field down a lot. If I was going for some loan category, I would narrow it down to a city so I am not trying to cover all of the US.

Instead of trying to get the whole small business loan niche, I would create a site about Seattle Small Business Loans and focus market it at a local level. I have found regional sites convert far better because there is a level of trust when a site is specifically about the persons area.

    Dear Betterdayblog:

Long efforts are required to get organic visitors from highly commercialised niches because there is a huge
compition for such niches. Try to discover some new niches that are not so much exposed yet. And if you
want to get quick organic visitors to your site then try to focus on the Micro Niches within your Main Niche
that are not so much commercialised. you will see a decent amount of traffic within a short period of time.

    Thanx

A niche market is a focused, targetable portion of a market.

By definition, then, a business that focuses on a niche market is addressing a need for a product or service that is not being addressed by mainstream providers. You can think of a niche market as a narrowly defined group of potential customers.

For instance, instead of offering cleaning services, a business might establish a niche market by specializing in blind cleaning services.

Why should you bother to establish a niche market? Because of the great advantage of being alone there; other small businesses may not be aware of your particular niche market, and large businesses won't want to bother with it.

The trick to capitalizing on a niche market is to find or develop a market niche that has customers who are accessible, that is growing fast enough, and that is not owned by one established vendor already.
Also Known As: Market niche, niche marketing, niche business.
