Hello, I have a question for owners of free directories: I noticed that many free directories offer free submission without reciprocal link and with reciprocal link in the same time. So if I link back to your directory even though there is an free option without reciprocal, will I get some benefits like better placement of my link in your directory?
Yes about 99.999% of the time, most scripts are setup this way. They'll display featured then recips then all the rest.
Like donttrustthisposter said, most scripts are setup this way by default, however, my directory is anything 'but' default. i'll be adding some code sometime next week to base placement on certain characteristics. featured always 1st recips > pr so reciprocols show 2nd pr > non recips so pr outranks non-reciprocols so they show 3rd that will be the default showing, but you'll still be able to sort by pr/hits/alpha Then again, I do have plans to modify that down the road as well. whereas alpha + reciprocol shows first over alpha non-reciprocols. hit + reciprocol show first over hits + non-reciprocols pr + reciprocol shows first over pr + non-reciprocols So as you see, I am dedicated to my directory, and although a hefty percentage wanted to just drop their directory in there without reciprocating back, their listings placement will show for it. I do not work on a first come first serve basis. It's not my style(featured are the exceptions to the rule). My directory will be what people make it out to be. Respect the directory and in turn, you will most definately benefit in the long run. I try to be as unique as time will possibly allow me to be, and hopefully people will see that in my directory. Hell, if everyone reciprocated, i would have left everything open for free. Too much garbage spam was starting to get submitted so i raised the stakes. It worked. no more spam. Sorry to ramble. Just expressing my wishes and hopes in implementing/rewarding those who are more appreciative. Rob
The greatest benefit is that you are helping the directory grow and move in in the SERPs. My directory does not require a reciprocal, therefore does not give preference to reciprocal links. However, in the grand scheme of things it will benefit everyone in the end. I am very pleased that there are a number of sites who are linking back to me, as mentioned, in the end it will only help everyone.
Thank you for your answers! Added our site to some directories and provided link back from http://az.co.cz/toplist . I noticed that some reciprocal links provided by directory owners are in this format: <a href="http://www.directory.com" id="R9C302E">Directory Name</a> ...what does it mean "id"? Is it identificator for the reciprocal link checker or is it for counting clicks?
