This is probably a stupid question, but... Is being very active whilst being a smoker better or worse then just smoking and being unfit? Whilst I don't smoke heaps, probably only about a pack a week, I tend to be pretty active going for 1-2 hour bike rides every day or second day. I am thinking maybe this isn't a very good idea because I am asking too much of my tar filled lungs Maybe I should just stop smoking, hey
They reckon cycling through smog is better than sitting in a car or bus because your lungs are busy expelling the crap from right at the bottom. When sitting you are breathing from the top of your lungs only so the "crap" can sink to the bottom. The same will hold true with the smoking I guess, but you'd want to be getting a really good heart rate and puff going. And yes, if you don't want to be like my fit and otherwise healthy Dad who dropped dead at 46, you should give up.
Smoking and not working out, is much worse, but I suppose smoking even at all surely does not help. I work out quite regularly. Weight training, eliptical, etc. I drink WATER ONLY. Sometimes my tea, soda as a treat, but I never have it in my home. I eat healthy and try to limit my fast food to sub shops like Quiznos. Keep in mind that smoking will starve the body and blood supply of oxygen. So smoking and doing nothing is gonna be much worse than not. But do realize that if you work out, you are not going to get as much out of the work out, muscle wise as a result. The thing you will find though is if you work out enough, even if you smoke, that you will start smoking less. The high you get working out, when the endorphins in your body get pumping is gonna feel much the same as the nictotines affects.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Cycling definately does get the heart rate up it's a great workout. I used to be a bicycle courier in the city riding like a nutter only because I just loved to ride. After getting knocked off my bike in only the second week, I figured it was enough Pay was shitty too.
If you really like cycling, try the inclined machine, the ones where you are sitting down. You can sit in front of a TV, read, or even grab your laptop and mulit-task your work out. I've read quite a few good books that way. It's the only way I can find time to read anymore!
I smoke and I have been staying fit just fine. I do a lot of walking, and when I get a good work out, I don't get the urge to smoke anyway. I've been smoking about 6 or 8 cigarettes a day. I don't get sick anymore except maybe once a year because I take vitamins every day like Vitamin C complex, B complex, Spirulina, etc, and I drink about 1 or 2 gallons of water a day. But I'm sure it all gets even better when you quit smoking
The problem with smoking isn't just that it attacks your lungs making them less effective and prone to illness. It gives you cancer. Under the circumstances, trying to figure out whether you cycle or not is rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.
Actually, smoking will not help you to deal with extra weight. It will only destroy your health. If you don’t like to lead an active life, the major option for you would be at least 8 hour sleep and change in the eating manners. I would recommend you to stop eating after 6pm until 10 am in the morning; such break will help your organism to digest the food eaten during the day.
Not from what I have experienced Kassi. Smokers tend to pickup a cigarette instead of having something to eat. I wouldn't recommend it as a weight loss plan though
