Question for Directory Owners - Where seems to be the issue ?

Hello all,
I recently talked some respectable directory owner on yahoo and he had to say this when i expressed that i am disappointed that not many directory owners are coming forward for the Directory Reviews Project.

As, you can see i am kinda disappointed and was expecting some participation from directory owners like myself and take part in the get reviewed program, i even got some cash prizes going to motivate, chris also agreed to sponsor the prize for the first months contest ($299 prize). But still i see my inbox empty.

So was wondering to myself and after theotherdude said that some people do not like criticism , would you guys like to take part in the program at Web Directory Reviews , with me not putting in any review or criticism for your directories at all and just include your interviews ? Or would you just want me to pick random names and do reviews, without knowing who the owner of that directory is ?

I wanted a site different from the rest totally devoted to directories and directory owners, and i can do only so much myself, without participation or support nothing is going to happen.

Like someone said "United we stand" , so i am guessing directory owners at this stage do not feel like spreading the words around: " that hey, we just do not run directories, we run a website full of information and if people are reviewing websites, why the hell should someone not review our directory, we are not inferior and directories are not dead."

Anyways I need all directory owners feedback at this stage. Cause its de-moralizing seeing no participation from those who are known as industry leaders, like malcom, richi_ni,popotalk,anon,chris,Creed etc etc. Everytime i contact them, i get same reply "I have no time right now and maybe later" . So, i am wondering are you guys just waiting for the Google PR update and seeing if my site gets any pagerank at all ? Does natural link and traffic not interest directory owners these days and its all about pagerank or feel that i might too frank at reviewing a directory from my own perspective ?

The most that bugs me is that fellow desi brothers/sisters are not helping me out, by simply spending few mins. doing the interview, like Amit,Adithya etc etc. Only Chetan took the time out of his busy exam life to help the project out.

Its not just my project i am doing for myself, its so that others do not say "hey directories suck , there is not a single site doing directory reviews these days, but there are lots of review sites for blogs,forums etc etc. "

I would guess that the people who said they are very busy really are. I don't think it has anything to do with you or your site...

 

I would not give up or lose hope! In fact this is my first time visiting your site.

As many other businesses, increase your pr and traffic for your website and I bet you won't have time to add them all. Just offer what most directories want and see the difference. Then most of us will have time (even hours) to write a review and be included in your list.

Well i didnt want to post that, but since u said it, i suppose it must be true. But like i said, same people/person will jump right at u and post lengthy threads if you say directories are dead and one should not run them anymore

Anyways i am lazy too , but i still find some time (to be exact takes me 45-90 mins to complete the review process per directory, for image editing,backlink checking, reviewing and checking the directory out its individual pages, trying to find broken links if feasible, making sure the post is than XHTML valid and other stages like eating cookie while working on the review ) to make sure the sites content is kept up todate and google spiders are happy, am trying to make sure site is seo friendly so more and more traffic can be driven from google.
For example for term zorg links review google puts web directory reviews at top

Same for other directories and terms "noble directory review" etc etc. who knows someone might one day before submitting to directories will actually look for reviews before submitting. And having a read over what the owners are doing for their directories will decide how much to invest or if the directory worth submitting to. Unless someone is really rich like mikey and does not care where to submit his site

@Chris, yes i know people are busy, some can be busy for life, but i am guessing project does not motivate them enough, cause i am sure if i am motivated to go to gym (aka hot chicks come there) i will make sure i make time to go to gym. (just an exampe )

@mywebsearches , no sir i am not giving up hope, just not motivated these days to review directories. But i will soon review some popular directories i see here at dp, whether the owner has time for interview or not, and i just want to know where the issue lies, is it because they are too busy, or find the whole project as useless, i just want whats best for directory industry, cause if someone raises a finger at some directory, they sure are raising a finger at me also at the same time, cause i run 2 directories too (although i seem to be ignoring them recently).

I agree with u malcom, and why would i take it personally?, its not a personal project of mine, its for directories and directory owners, i do not think i will even spend money getting backlinks, i will try to get all natural backlinks if feasible.

Personal project would be my hosting site, and my bullshit site and my directories.

 

Well, I figured I belong to that part of the post

First of, there is nothing wrong/bad about your site. Don't think like that, coz if you got that idea, you wouldn't be able to improve it or even work on it. When people said they are busy, then most likely they are. They will get back to you sooner or later.

Secondly, personally I really like what you have done so far. I really like to know fellow member and reading an interview of their own really helps. So, keep doing it.

Lastly, I will surely be doing it myself. (And trust me, mine would be "different" for you with a lot of trouble of "editing" involve ) The reason I haven't done it is that, I don't think I am ready yet. I wanted to do few things first before I can actually talk about them.

I am not sure if my interview would count that much because at this time, I am "just an other directory owner". But, I will be coming to you ... may be in next few day.

Haha funny, lack of self-confidence gets no one anywhere . And those thinking they are not worthy are just fooling themselves or are just too modest , i have never said no or have not done a review for the directory who sent me the email. Even made special categories for their directories. Who is to decide who is worthy and who is not ?

PS: I do not do indepth reviews, i just express what i see, someone once said the reviews are not professional , duuh thats not even my aim, i want to be able to express how a directory looks without taking into consideration if i am doing it for someone i know really good or someone i have bad relations with.

Plus project is bigger than myself and my selfish needs anyways.

I do not have anything on my PC to open a .doc and i'm not willing to install a monster application just to fill a form.

You do not even have to post a comment there, just send me the completed questions which u can download from there. I will as suggested work on the online questionnaire form for easy processing for end-users (great idea why did i not think of it before, ooh yaa cause i am lazy )

Yaa templates , you sent me docx file, i will try to read it using different software, i tried saving it as .doc extension but my office wont read it. Or you can just use wordpad and send .rtf file ?
