Question for Democrats...

If you believe that gun regulations help with the problem of violence, please explain to me the following facts:

In Switzerland, 1 in 2 people are armed. Their violent crime rate is among the lowest in the developed world.
In Great Britain, private ownership of guns has been banned for a while. Great Britain has 3x the violent crime rate of the U.S.
Australia recently passed a total gun ban. There has been no effect on crime.
The United States had very high crime rates in the 80s, when gun freedom was the lowest. Since removing the gun bans, crime rates went down substantially.

The next fact may sound weird, but it helps us understand some of the Democrats:

In the 1930s, Germany abolished gun rights.

Which would you prefer: A ton of law-abiding citizens in a mall who could prevent any murders, or a ton of law-abiding citizens who were at the mercy of one guy with a can of pepper spray and a knife.

    Final note:

We had an awful situation down here where an 11yo kid had been bullied for a year and the school had done nothing about it. Kid snaps and attacks the bully with scissors. The bully is still in hospital in a critical condition but what if the kid had decided to bring Dad's gun to school?

The issue isn't so much around gun control but in how society treats it's weakest and most vulnerable. Mental health issues aren't handled well, from an outsider's point of view.

There's also the theory that in the Nordic countries there is less racial and cultural diversity and that the sameness is a good thing. Could the same rationale apply to Switzerland.

An old workmate ended up in Basel and his wife was criticised by neighbours because a) she didn't raise the blinds early enough each morning and b) her husband could be seen doing ironing. If that level of social control is actually a good thing - and it's completely the opposite to the anything-goes attitude of the USA - then maybe that is what needs to change?

Your post is a piece of BS that just takes some random facts out of the context and tries to make a point. I don´t have the time to deal with all your nonsense so I only deal with first one. Let's look at Switzerland.

"The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 30 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training. The personal weapons of the militia are kept at home as part of the military obligations;"

Do Americans need to go military training to get guns?

    "
in October 2007, the Swiss Federal Council decided that the distribution of ammunition to soldiers shall stop and that all previously issued ammo shall be returned. By March 2011, more than 99% of the ammo has been received. Only special rapid deployment units and the military police still store ammunition at home today.[5]

When their period of service has ended, militiamen have the choice of keeping their personal weapon and other selected items of their equipment. However, keeping the weapon after end of service requires a license.

The government sponsors training with rifles and shooting in competitions for interested adolescents, both male and female.

A "shooting society " somewhere in Switzerland; people come to such ranges to complete mandatory training with service arms, or to shoot for sport and competition.
A "shooting society" somewhere in Switzerland; people come to such ranges to complete mandatory training with service arms, or to shoot for sport and competition.
The sale of ammunition – including Gw Pat.90 rounds for army-issue assault rifles – is subsidized by the Swiss government and made available at the many shooting ranges patronized by both private citizens and members of the militia. There is a regulatory requirement that ammunition sold at ranges must be used there.
The Swiss Army maintains tight adherence to high standards of lawful military conduct. In 2005, for example, when the Swiss prosecuted recruits who had reenacted the torture scenes of Abu Ghraib, one of the charges was improper use of service weapons."

Very different than the USA, isn´t it?

"In order to purchase most weapons, the purchaser most obtain a weapon acquisition permit (Waffenerwerbsschein), in accordance with Article 8 of Act. Swiss citizens over the age of 18 who are not psychiatrically disqualified nor identified as posing security problems, and who have a clean criminal record can request such a permit."

These are real control and not the USA style.

"To carry a loaded firearm in public or outdoors (and for an individual who is a member of the militia carrying a firearm other than his Army-issue personal weapons off-duty), a person must have a Waffentragbewilligung (gun carrying permit), which in most cases is issued only to private citizens working in occupations such as security."

Very hard to get carry permits.

    "
Conditions for getting a Carrying Permit[edit]
    There are three conditions:

    • fulfilling the conditions for buying a permit (see section above)
    • stating plausibly the need to carry firearms to protect oneself, other people, or real property from a specified danger
    • passing an examination proving both weapon handling skills and knowledge regarding lawful use of the weapon
The carrying permit remains valid for a term of five years (unless otherwise surrendered or revoked), and applies only to the type of firearm for which the permit was issued. Additional constraints may be invoked to modify any specific permit. Neither hunters nor game wardens require a carrying permit.

    Transporting guns
Guns may be transported in public as long as an appropriate justification is present. This means to transport a gun in public, the following requirements apply:

    • The ammunition must be separated from the gun, no ammunition in a magazine.
    • The transport needs to be as direct as possible and needs a valid purpose:
      • For courses or exercises hosted by marksmanship, hunting or military organisations,
      • To an army warehouse and back,
      • To show the gun to a friend or a possible buyer
      • To and from a holder of a valid arms trade permit,
      • To and from a specific event, i.e. gun shows."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland

To all this add the high level of social structure in Switzerland and it becomes quite obvious while civilized countries can handle gun ownership while in the USA is not a good idea.

Switzerland, like most countries outside of the US, has closed borders, rampant racism, and a racially homogeneous population. Its makes it very hard to draw comparisons.

Oh, and its hard to take advice from Diane Feinstein on guns after she gave us such great advice on the NSA, only to later complain when she discovered they were recording all of her phone calls as well. Shes just another know nothing, lying, statist hypocrite, like most Democrats. This guy is one of my favorites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leland_Yee
