Question for a newcomer to Affiliate Marketing

Just before I get too far into things, by trade, I am a salesperson, but I am experienced working on a sales floor rather than on the internet. This is a big part of what is confusing me at the moment.

I am taking small bites getting into Affiliate Marketing, of course I know that this all takes time. As far as generating traffic and all that, I am more than confident in my ability to do that, what is confusing me here is the way that the selling process is done online. Now, I am looking at the same time to get into lead gen as well, as I am starting to write e-books, and would like to start marketing that way as well, however, for someone who literally walks into ClickBank's market place, picks a good software of ebook based product, is it really as simple as publishing it, promoting it and watching it sell, or is there plenty more to it than that?

Sorry, I know this will sounds like a dumb question to alot of affiliate pro's out there, this is something that I am working towards, and in all honesty, with the drive that I have in me at the moment (I would like to buy some milk and bread at least! haha), it feels like its one small thing that is holding me back, I just need to identify what that is.

For everyone that has helped in other areas on DP, I'm grateful as all hell, but please dont post things like "They have a great tutorial over at this network" and so on and so forth, I have read alot on this, but its just the selling aspect that is blowing me over, being so used to selling face to face rather than online. And I understand that people dont like to give out their secrets, so even if you can via PM if you arent cool with it, I dont mind.

Cheers guys, thanks for putting up with the crazy post. :D

honestly - First it depends on what your e-book is about, is there any kind of demand for what you are writing about and Second most importantly how are you going to market it?
I would first dip your toe in marketing. One thing you will notice quickly you can get very lost in the Affiliate Marketing Life.
But what is the point of having a great engine if you have no car to put it in....

Best Of Luck ( you might want to check out my link below, it might be something that is useful for you and you can still by bread and milk- it's Free.)

Thanks for the response. I think that the thing that I am most having trouble wrapping my head around is the sales process. I mean, I have no problem promoting a website, I have my methods of getting good results in search engines with that, its going back to me being so adjusted to face to face sales, then having to do it online its a little confusing. I mean, to put iot into perspective, when I work on the floor, I approach customers, I build rapport, I can sit with them for weeks trying to close a large sale, take them out for coffee, etc etc, whereas I get the idea online that its a case of promote, promote, and promote, and when people find you, they buy after you have given your spiel via your own website or portal.

I mean, I dont mean to make that look trivial, its a case here of me trying to discover if that really is all that this involves, or is there more to this that I dont know about (apart from finding the product, and promoting it on and off site, etc). Forgive my ignorance here, I mean, I dont mean to sound biased (was one of Austrlaia's top Music Instruments sales people in 2007), but this is something that I am finding it hard to digest mainly because it is either so damn easy, or its well above my head.

Again, sorry about the confusing post. haha

On the floor you say you talk. What do you talk about? The product only? I doubt it, I assume you are building trust - over coffee :).
On the internet you advertise and share information too. Instead of coffee you have to find different tecniques. You then have to keep your word when it comes to delivery and follow-up.
It is the same in both: Serve your clients.
    Only the tools change.

Cheers for that. I have taken a few days away to literally site here and read e-books, forums, videos, and anything that makes the slightest amount of sense. Website promotion is one thing that I can do. Personally, I havent acheived the #1 rank in Google for my keyword yet, and I havent touched on making a trusted name for myself yet either. This will come with what I am working on next which I hope to be a foolproof method for dominating your keyword in Google, then marketing what you have got.

My whole idea basically is this:

SEO + Promotion + Buttering up the customer = Traffic, Sales + Profit.

Will see how it goes. CHeers!

Selling ebook is not that much easy task. What are the disadvantages?
    1. You CAN'T provide demos
    2. You CAN'T show screenshots of your ebook.
    3. You CAN'T offer MoneyBack (I am not in the favor of moneybacks)

So, the only thing you have is your convincing power, So make it best and your website should be a great one to sell ebooks. You need to work hard.
