Hello, I am wondering how many people on DP know the meaning of this word, I just looked it up because I didn't knew it before!? Who of you knows what this means without looking it up ? And I'm wondering if non-english speakers (I think non native english speakers is better but I'm not sure) also don't know this word? And what would it mean if I said dwindle me? Kindest regards and I know it's a weird question !
I know what it means but I was just wondering if it's a word that english speaking people use and understand without looking it up ? Regards.
i know what it means, and i didn't have to look it up. not bragging or nothing but English is my native and only language. well, English and bad English.
I know it's a weird question uglyboy but I was wondering if "dwindle me" could also mean "make me shorter" or "reduce me"? In a sentence: "can you dwindle that description" = "can you make the description shorter"??? Regards and thank you for all the answers to this strange post !
Hey mathias, It has to be used in context for the word "dwindle" to keep its true meaning. For instance "Dwindle me" is not a proper content people can use that word in. Now if you said you were in a crowd or something, I can say the crowd dwindled down to one person, Mathias. Or, Mathias's weight is dwindling down to nothing. The word dwindle means to make something less than, diminish, become smaller or lose substance ... I would think it would be a difficult word to understand if someone's native language is something other than english.
well.. just searched for this word "dwindle" on wikipedia "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia You searched for dwindle: No article title matches No page with that title exists"
"can you dwindle that description" is grammatically incorrect, I would still understand though.. You can cause something to dwindle, but you can not actually dwindle it...
My point is that even wikipedia doesnt know what it means. And I don't know, cause english isn't my primary language. I've tried to look for it in wikipedia and didn't find a definition. That was the point.
Ah ... well Wikipedia doesn't list every word in the english language. That's probably why you couldn't find it there. I just checked my dictionary, and it is in there though. It's a big hardback.
Dwindle, as in, DWINDLE, is used more often in continuation. "My balance is dwindling by the day". It is an ongoing thing, as we say it in DP terms. SO, "DWINDLE" has less usage as compared to "DWINDLING". I knew the meaning BTW.
Thank you for all the answers ! I've used this word to launch this service http://dwindle.me/! Kindest regards and thanks again!
