Hi All, I want to ask few basic questions here. What's the significance of directory submission? I also want to know how one can submit his site to directories. Can anyone tell me about paid and free directories? Is Google and yahoo are paid directories? At which stage of life of one domain all these techniques helpful in their success? Thanks in advance.
You get links back to your site, which improves your link popularity. Using the proper anchor text, it can also help your rankings. Go to a directory and choose the proper category, and then click on their submit link. There are some really good paid directories, and you may want to see a top list or atleast search the forum to learn how to judge a good directory. You can use the forum search option to find many directory lists. Google uses the DMOZ.org Web Directory, which is free but can take years to get listed in. Yahoo is a paid directory $299. Best in the beginning stages, but still useful at any time. Good luck
Thanks snow bird for sharing your knowledge in a concise but more useful way. Any one else? As I'm new to all these concepts so I don't even know what I need to know or what else I should ask here. So if you want you can come up with more points. Thanks.
I have to agree with snowbird that the best time to submit to web directories is when your site is new. If you start submitting to web directories with the proper anchor text you site will start getting long tail search engine hits. Then if you have good content some of those hits will turn into links from other webmasters. That will bump you up in the SERPs some more and get you better keyword hits. So if you keep submitting your site can rank for fairly competitive keywords.
Submitting to directories will help your backlinks, and because google use backlinks as an important part in their ranking algorithium, submitting to directories will help your google search ranking.
Well, there's a free ebook on everything you wanted to know about directory submissions, you could perhaps find some useful info there.
