Question about your hosting provider

    Hi!
I have one question and everyone reading this post can answer me - the more members will take part in this discussion, the better.

How much do you pay for hosting? I don't need domains of hosting providers (if I would, I'll contact you) but I need only short information: how much you pay for hosting (per month) and how many gigs it provides (space and bandwith).

I was thinking of starting hosting service but I need to know what's current standard. I mean, what conditions (gigs and cash) should be provided to encourage webmasters to choose my hosting.

I'll be grateful for any information.

    Cheers!
    Claudia

is it this one 6.36$ / month? and unlimited.. everything :) so providing plans with limited bandwith (even for 1,5$/month) has no point.. am I right?

Alot depends on the site you are planning to run.

The average wordpress site doesn't need much but if people will be uploading images and videos you'll need more disk space. If the scripts are "heavy" you'll need a more powerful server. If you site goes viral (wouldn't that be nice) you'll need more bandwidth.

Find a host that has a "lite" plan but who is able to upgrade you as your requirements change.

dear Sarah, I don't know if I had used correct words before, but I'd like to buy some 'hosting reseller' account and start selling hosting.
this is why I ask about current standard and prices, cause I have to know what features should accounts (that I'll offer) have. :)

I believe it will be faster to you to get information from the sites of popular web hosts and compare their plans and prices

yeah Collard, you're right, but I also wanted to know what webmasters prefer..
e.g. do you think hosting like this one:
    1gb space + 8 gb bandwith for 1,8$/month
do you think people could take it or not? this is just example of hosting plan which I could create. but I don't want to create something and have no customers.

Having worked within the hosting industry, it is not really the plans that sell (I would stay away from offering unlimited though) but the service and what you offer. Try and find something that others are not doing and stick to it and always make sure things are working (if they are not, tell your customers why with no lies) and that if they need support - they can get it quickly and in a nice manner.

Offering a good service often always oversell someone whom is just selling a lot.

Spec wise, try and find what you can offer honestly by breaking what you have down (such as how much space your server has) and then put a price on those plans.

Hosting wise, I pay £90 a month at vps.net but that isn't exactly normal webhosting like you plan to offer.

Snat thanks for advice! Yeah, I'll try to provide something that other websites don't. Yeah, certainly it will be full online support.

But you did not answer and as I can see you have knowledge in this topic.. is my plan (1gb space + 8 gb bandwith for 1,8$/month) competitive? or better to make something else?

Thought I did answer but may have worded it wrong. Typically these days you will find two forms of web hosts - those that offer unlimited or completely insanely high figures that they will need to hide behind a TOS and hope for the best. The second lot is people that offer far lower specs which they can actually use. So your plan for lets say 1GB space and 8GB bandwidth for lets say - $6 monthly will sell but only if you market it to people that will not touch unlimited hosting and maybe even market towards businesses. If you offer a low amount of specs like that, you will have to make sure your other areas such as support, services etc is as best as you can do as that is ultimately what sells.

So to sum up, yes you will find your prices is competitive but only to a certain group of people or better way to put it, a certain market. Nowadays most people will run off to an unlimited web host and in many cases (as you can see on forums like Webhosting Talk) you will see they get kicked off for using the resources and then going with people that offer lower specs like yourself and it is those people you will have to market towards.

Snat, thanks for such a comprehensive reply!

I would offer (if I will run the business) e.g. plans that look like this: 1gb space, 8gb bandwith, 20 (or 30) subdomains/email accounts/mysql db.
price would be from 1.5$/month. I hope it would be competitive. I have to be sure that some people would take it, because I don't want to waste money.

If you would have any ideas or more comments, I will be grateful for it!

With so many hosts to choose from these days, you really have to find your niche or specialize in a certain area in order to succeed in this business. As another poster mentioned, you must also always provide stellar support that will keep your clients happy, which in turn, will usually cause them to recommend you to others. Word of mouth is everything in this industry.

    Best of luck to you!
