Question about You Tube Videos and Ads

Discussion in 'Google' started by hmansfield, Dec 26, 2008.

I can't seem to find a direct answer to this question:

I have a blog that shows videos from video sharing sites like You Tube. Is it true that Google does not allow you to place ads on these types of sites ?

If so, does that mean site wide, or only on pages where the video is that main content ?

I have seen other sites with ads next to, or on the same page as the You Tube videos, but they seem to have a lot of videos pulled from them.
Then there are sites like Vod Pod, and Veoh that pull videos from You Tube and place ads either right next to the videos, or in the player.

So what is Google's official position on this ?

Can I place ads on pages and posts that do not contain You Tube videos ?

    Any help is appreciated,
    thanks.

That's news to me. Why can't you display adsense on these type of sites?

I don't know what the truth is... I have seen tons of people doing it, but I have heard that it is not allowed anymore.

I can't find any mention where it is not allowed, but the only thing I can find about "Videos" and "ads" are about displaying You Tube/Adsense Video ads

    Can anyone enlighten me ?

    Hello...

I think googles major beef is with those that are uploading the videos
and not giving credit to youtube by removing the embedded logo.

    thx

    Ah ha !

So you can have a site or blog using Google video (You Tube), as the main content and generate revenue from the videos with Google ads (Adsense),...no problem ?

Does any one have any more clarification on this ?

I would think google would not serve ads on a video site if it was against the tos.

I would hope that the wouldn't have a problem with their own videos.

Besides, I don't necessarily want to put adsense on the site, I am just looking for clarification on using You Tube videos as content for the puposes of advertising.

I read somewhere (but I can't remember where - so I have no source to back it up) but Google isn't too happy when people make "video" sites that are basically pulling just videos from YouTube (via the feeds) and then plastering the site pages with Adverts. As I said before, I ain't got a source for this so I'm unsure if it's true. However if the website has content along with a video that is added from YouTube using the EMBED link then it should be fine.

Give Google an email if you're not 100% sure. :)

That's along the same lines of what I heard as well, and that all makes perfect sense. The site in question posts videos from all sources, not just You Tube, and there is content as well.

Besides, I really just wanted to advertise my own sites on it, and maybe one affiliate banner.

Then to be honest, I believe it'll be fine. But as I mentioned before, if you're still unsure then just pop and email over to Google AdSense Support people ( adsense-support [at] google [dot] com ) and they'll give you an answer within 3 days. :)

I think there is no problem with this kind of sites.
Unless your are using some youtube script thats generate automatic content... Google dislike video post automatic generators.

But please post your answer of AdSense Support people

Well I'm not going to use adsense on the site, my main worry was monetizing You Tube content in other ways. (non adult).

I have already thrown up a few banners, so I am just going to go forward.
