I actually don't really like the way Yahoo handles with Directory submissions where the money is not refundable. but I guess I still have to admit that they have the most traffic among others, so I'm still thinking over it whether I should submit my site or not to their directories. I also want to ask you guys on how do you experience with Yahoo Directories to those who submitted their site? Any suggestions/opinions to what should I prepare before submitting mine...? :-/
See If you have big budget then you can submit your site in yahoo directory but If you have limited budget to spend online then you should submit your site into quality paid directories.
Is is really worth spending that much money to get into Yahoo directory? I've been wondering myself. Does anyone has first hand experience?
well, it "may" help your rankings, but the traffic is minimal even from a big directory like Yahoo. if you have a big budget i'd say go for it, if you have a limited budget then spend the $300 in Quality and high traffic links from related websites.
a combiniation of alive+aviva+[directory dump or gii] will send more traffic and pass more pr than yahoo directory. and it will cost the same! but then, if you have already submitted to most top directories, then going for yahoo directory is not a bad idea!
yeah, i'm interested in directory dump too haha... but it seems like it's only for directories, not a site... :-/
I am also planning to submit to Yahoo directory. Maybe Jeff/Chris can share the process with us. I would like disagree with uttoransen. I believe PR is not always about the PR of the page you are listed. Although Aviva + Alive are authority directories too like Yahoo --Google officially recommends Yahoo directory. So I guess -- there will be a special programme to judge a site if bots find it listed on Yahoo Directory. Like the OP- ( I hope I am not hijacking the thread) - I would like to know if I can submit my directory which is still under development.
You need to have a complete site in order to submit to Yahoo, do not submit under construction sites. I would submit if you have the money and you are already in the other quality paid sites!
I think that, in most cases, Yahoo is the best paid link a site can get. Alive, Aviva, etc don't get even close; check out the backlinks profile, and see which site inspires more Trust (PR is only useful if you are going to sell links to other webmasters looking for PR). My tips to submitting to Yahoo: -Look for the category which is most related to your site; that category will probably be in the same neighborhood as your site, hence passing more trust, hence increasing more your rankings -If several categories fit, take the one with fewer sites listed; when a category gets many links, Yahoo breaks it down in several pages, and the newer sites go to the tail -Keywords in the anchor are crucial; the editors have the final take on wording the link. Change the name of your site (that sentence which a visitor first sees when reaching your homepage) to include your keyword; in my experience, this is the name that the editors prefer to put in the link. Make sure that the topic of your site is in accordance with the name you are submitting; you want to include keywords, but you don't want to look spammy. -Make a description that an editor could accept without changing; make it honest, make it clearly matching your homepage and other main pages (editors are known to spend very little time evaluating submissions); the idea is: give something that is good for you and that the editor will see no reason to change -Submit, get listed, wait several months (six months to one year) to see how your site will move up; if you are happy (I certainly am), pay the fee again; if you have a good site, you may risk not paying the fee, and will see that Yahoo will keep the link anyway; in any case, you can re-submit again in another category, and gain another link from Yahoo. Hope this is helpful.
I just dropped my yahoo directory listings a few months ago, not because I could not pay for it, but because you would think that after spending that much on a directory listing you could at least rank for your own domain name. Index-it.net has 1,000's of links but I guess that is just not good enough because I still do not rank #1 for my own domain name on there search engine. However, I am still listed in all of their other directories. Either way it is still a good directory and highly recommended.
I submit all of my clients sites, it is well worth the money and I have never had a site knocked back but then I have pretty high standards about what I will SEO.
It is difficult to say because I think analytics my just show it all as Yahoo! It is worth getting because a listing will help to get Google and Yahoo to trust your site more and build up your authority!
