Hi, I use wordtracker (both the subscription one and the free version on seobook) to find traffic numbers. I and im sure many others have noticed that often some weird nonsense phrase or phrase which includes a specific misspelling has an abnormally high number of searches. Does anyone know why this is? how could 100 people type in the the same bizarre phrase daily? If this is just a fluke (say the data collected that day was from a single user that typed it in wrong), then how can we trust such tools when trying to find long tail phrases?
I don't trust their numbers in general. I was ranking very highly for 2 out of 3 terms, and wordtracker reported the 3rd term (the one I didn't rank high for) had twice as much volume in searches as the other two. So I worked on it for a while, and got it up to #2 in the serp. It now brings in *half* as much traffic as the other two, not twice. I was quite disappointed, and no longer trust wordtracker.
If you made a lot of request using this keyword, to the meta search engines that they use to calculate the expected number of visits, you will see that you can achieve this results... I read about this on some blog but I can't find it... Some people use this technique to make people think their product or service is "hot" and a lot of people is searching this product.,... grey hat marketing technique ?? maybe ... works =??? of course
For just the idea of keyword, I uses the keyword tools like wordtracker and google keyword suggestion. Finally I make the keyword phrases according to my idea with the help of keyword tools.
Hum, you are wrong... Think about future, once Google not going to provide this tool it's support in future, what happen? Adwords is the best as it's Google owned. The most reliable tool...
Your search are based on Google. Ranking or traffic generated through Google itself, choose the perfect and accurate results for better business, analyze it by using other tools.
I find this to be a problem with any tool. There is no substitute for common sense. Use your head! Sometimes I am researching a niche and a phrase just doesn't seem right. It may be long tail and I think to myself "why in the world would this get searched XX times per day?!?". I've tried ranking for some of these terms before and yeah, it hasn't brought in boatloads of traffic for me, lol. You also need to keep in mind that sometimes something "trendy" can slip in too. Something very specific happens and tons of people search for it this week, but next week hardly anyone. I also think that a part of this is people trying to manipulate the results. There is a concept called black hole seo I believe, that does this. Matt
