Hi, I am just curious about people opinion. When you design a website, where did you get start. From functions or layouts?

Which process goes faster. I start from database to admin panel and to the layout, which is not that what I want it be.

I'm considering of reversing the process.

    Any idea?

Please, do not call it stupid question if you don't wanna help. I'm desperate already.

Best thing to do to create a website is use Wordpress.
Then whatever you do, you can change the look, style and layout at the click of a button - just by changing your theme.
So long as you have hosting with cPanel, you can use Fantastico to set up your site in a few clicks.

This 'will' completely depend on the individual,. If you are a techie designer you will most likely begin with the database and work from there. Most 'web designers' create on paper or photoshop first - with the visual layout deciding how the site will compliment itself. Then put it together - If you want a great looking site, draw it out out first (what will go where, how will it look to other people) Then "assemble it" how ever you like.

I recommend a visual approach. This is a very competitive market, focus on ease of use for the public.

You will find this article useful - Website Design Tips.

I would recommend starting with the basics. Which is setting up the website in raw html and then building functions and functionalities as traffic comes along and as you feel the need to do so. Throwing everything on the table at once will be something very tiring and frustrating. Take it slow - promoting a website is a slow process.

Build a small HTML based website with a nice design, then later on add a blog, build a forum, add applications/widgets. As years pass by you will probably have an amazing website.

Remember, all popular websites of today didn't get there over night - Facebook took 6 years to get where it is today. It only launched small and then it grew. This is something to consider.

    I hope this helped.

    Thanks

Try to keep it simple and incremental. Don't use WP or MySQL unless you need it. Consider that at some point you'll need to move it to other hosting, your site may grow and DB performance may become a bottleneck, etc.
When I design website I start with finding traffic for it and keep site design investment minimal. When traffic gets there I invest more time in advanced features. It is impossible to say what comes first DB or UI. In my opinion they just come together.
