I'm new to website design and usability. I read that they should be used, and I started noticing websites changing their design to tabs. However, it seems like that trend is ceasing or a lot of new designs aren't implementing this design. What do you think about using tabs for sub-headings? Thank you!
I would say go with what you are comfortable with. Sometimes going with something that is currently popular or alot of other sites is doing isn't the best way to go because then you aren't unique.
Unique isn't always a good thing. For instance, if you're designing a site to sell a service and you create it like some artist's portfolio to be unique, you've screwed yourself. For business sites, it's not about what's unique or graphically amazing, it's about what works and what rings the register. As for tabs, use them if it fits your image. There are many ways to use "tabs." Part of being a good designer is being yourself.
Thank you, kashirakaze and marketjunction, for your replies! I will consider your advice when designing a website.
Yes, marketjunction is right. Sometimes a simple website is good. Depends on what website you're trying to run. Different websites, usually uses different design. For easiest way to improve your website is, use search engine to seek websites that are similar to yours and use them as reference. Good idea?
