I want to register a new domain and I wanted to use eBay in the domain name, do you think it would be okay?

    Something like eBaywiz.com

    But not that.

    Is that okay or no?

    Thanks for your help,

I will be ok as long as you are not planning on joining the CJ Ebay affiliate program. Ebay does not allow any use of the word 'ebay' in urls that display their affiliate codes.

Oh okay, that's what I thought. Yes, no I'll be selling an eBook on eBay. Nothing to do with CJ.

    Thanks!

That is a trademark violation. You can register it and keep it as long as your site has NOTHING to do with eBay, Auctions, or anything related to eBay in any way. If it does, then you are making money off of their name and leading people to believe you are affiliated, so they will take the domain from you. If your site makes zero income and doesn't harm anything, you might be okay, but I wouldn't do it.

At the end of the day it would be a trademark violation if you use the their trademark to profit, other then that it should be ok..I ebay does not own evey domain that has ebay on it.

    Do not do it.
eBay will catch up with you. I had a domain name with ebay in it, I eventually got a letter from them asking me to simply not use the domain and let it expire.

Sample of email I received below...

I would not suggest it. Ebay has plenty of money and has caught up with a number of people in the past. It's not worth buying only to get a letter and not be able to use it or have to give it up. Just my 2 cents.

Ebay goes after every name with the string *ebay* in it. They will for sure go for this one.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I wouldn't risk it as you would have potential TM issues.

    Absolutely not....

Do not register a domain name with the famous mark EBAY in it. Not only is it a bad business practice, but ebay is one of the most aggressive companies at protecting their mark. And your not likely to be taken serious if you claim you did not know the word EBAY was trademarked.
