Question about the descriptions on the google search results ?

    Hello all,

After having done some searches on Google, I've seen all the urls that google has crawled on my site are ok. It should be directly linked to my sitemap.

But if I look at the description of the shown search results... aïe ! Most of the descriptions are totally crazy without any connexions with the description of my games.

If you want to see it by yourself:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=+site:1game.free.fr

Would you know any way to control the description of the search result shown by google ? through a META ? or may I add a description field in my sitemap ?

Sorry if my question is too stupid but i am chocked ! LOL.

Thank you Magda. I've already put a Meta Description. It is the same text for all pages but the text that appears on the search result of google are not at all my description. It looks like <a href = "xxx"> or some words picked-up randomly on the pages.

When you talk about a meta description, it is in the HTML code not in the sitemap, ins't it ?

The meta is in the HTML code. If google is picking up HTML code, I would run it through a validator, coz it sounds like your code is broken.

Also, do not use the same meta description on every page. Unique-ish metas seem to help you get indexed better. (I'm sure some will argue, but uniqueness is always good.)

Before July 2007, I used meta description with the same description for all the site. Since mid july, I've changed it and now I have a special description for each page. I did the same with the title.

Now I see that google search result are better (not yet on all the pages but I think this is going to be processed as soon as google will have reviewed all pages).

I don't know if meta are archived in the cached pages. It may be a reason.

Part of SEO is to create unique descriptions for each web page within the site. If you use a default description for all pages, you harm your site greatly.

It is better to leave the Meta Description blank than use a default description.

You are right. It was due to the fact I am using xoops and that I did not change this description (which is by default). Now it has been done. The description that appears now are better than before but for all urls. I think I need to wait that the SE is indexing again all the pages.
